'The Bachelor': Not very awesome

It's hometown date time, and Jake is packing for his first trip in a hotel room surrounded by censored artwork.  I didn't know the motel art industry was that sensitive over what's shown.

Jake says there's a lot at stake here, as he's apparently just realized that proposing to one of these women is a "huge thing."

Our first stop is New York, where Jake connects with Gia.  The two take a boat ride around Manhattan, where Gia proudly notes that the Empire State Building is the one with the "pointy thing" on top.  She's also failing the little-known vocabulary competition of the show, courtesy of her frequent use of the world "like."

Jake and Gia go to a restaurant where they and Gia's family look like the only customers.  Jake and Gia's mom talk about the relationship - Jake says that Gia has a way about here that's real "organic."  After dinner, Jake notes that Gia's parents were "awesome," then opts to sit on a stoop with Gia and watch the taxis go by.  Jake asks Gia if she's even been kissed on a stoop.  Is that a compliment or letdown?

Our next stop is Williamstown, Massachusetts, where Ali's family calls home.  Ali notes she grew up in Williamstown as a kid, which means this occurred 4 to 5 years ago.

Ali wants to show Jake a "really, really important place" to her.  The one time I visited Williamstown, I was told the "important place" was some faux-1950s diner.  But that's not the case, as Ali takes Jake to her dead grandmother's house.

We now head to another home, this one with an extremely blue kitchen, where Jake meets with three of Ali's family members. Mom admits to knowing nothing about the show, so she went online to see a video clip of Jake talking about relationships.  Way to promote the Web site, Mom.

Our third stop is Newburg, Oregon, where Jake's getting together with Tenley, who takes Jake to the dance studio "she grew up in."  Pretty hard to cook meals and sleep in there, that's for sure.

Tenley then does an interpretive dance in honor of Jake, who thinks it's "awesome."  Jake thinks many things are awesome, doesn't he?  He's still stuck in 1988.

Tenley says it's important to get parental approval for her next husband.  She doesn't want to talk about the ex, but mentions him every 45 seconds or so.

Tenley's father tells Jake that he's pleased with him making family a priority, then gets all verklempt.  Tenley then informs Jake that he made her entire family verklempt.  Jake is a walking Nicholas Sparks novel.

Our last stop is Florida to see Vienna and her family.  Vienna, who says she's done everything she's wanted to do by age 23, including getting married, really wants Jake to see her dad.  At home, more people are crying, and dad takes Jake to his "man cave" for a five o'clock shadow summit.  Dad says he has a good feeling about Jake, who admits it's "awesome" that he's falling hard for Vienna.

Back to the hotel for the rose ceremony, and there's a knock at Jake's door.  It's Ali, and she's looking blue as her mother's kitchen.  She "just found out" that she must choose between staying on the show and her job, and needs Jake's help.  Jake says he'd like Ali to stay, but that she must decide for herself.  This goes on and on and on until the rose ceremony, where Ali decides to depart.

As she leaves, Jake says Ali is "slipping right through his fingers, and he doesn't know how to stop her."  Good to see ex-soap opera writers finding work.  In the "Limo of Shame," Ali wonders out loud whether she made the right decision.

Back at the hotel, Jake tells the three remaining women that they are off to St. Lucia.  The women cheer, then privately wonder where St. Lucia is.

What did you think of this week's edition of "The Bachelor"?

sorry but Jake seems kinda dumb and he has all the right lines to say in tight situations like he has been a player most of his life. Is he around 40 something? His face is so wrinkled.

I believe ABC is to blame for some of oddity of this show. What I think really happened with Ali is that she saw how weird Jake was and she wanted out! Do you really think all the girls LOVE the bachelor each and every season? Ali wanted out after her friends spied on them in SanFransico and didn't approve. ABC made a deal with her to carry on so they could hold the crying episode.

Also, Jake acts like he's a hot shot saleman when he's with Vienna. Check out his facial expressions while they ride the pantoon boat. He likes to feel superior and he can do that with Vienna. That's why he ends up with her!

Where can I get the house plans to Tenley's parents' house?

How can a good looking guy like that end up on that show? Come on Jake, I'm sure you could have done better than a TV show to meet someone... Unless you want your own show like Travis Stork..... Which I totally refuse to watch... Obviously he ONLY wanted to be on TV... DUMP VIENNA PLEASE....

What is funny is how those who hate the show watch it and take the time to comment on this blog! If you hate the show so much why do you watch? I like the show and I think Vienna is beautiful she is young and is still a daddies girl, nothing wrong with that, get over it people. Better than being a back stabbing biach, can you say Ali. And then there is the sleezy Gia...and Tenley is sooooo annoyingly phony. GO Vienna!!! Hope you and Jake are very happy!!!!

My wish is to have been a fly on the wall as Jake watched the show this season – when he finally had the opportunity to see what Vienna was really like!

To see him read the magazine articles about her fleecing her ex-husband, smashing up cars....etc etc

To see her topless pics online.

The look on his face must have been priceless when he realized what a fool he will look like when he chooses her on the show.

Now that would be real entertainment!!

Hey folks! Don't like the show? Don't watch. Many are watching, regardless of scripting, editing, "fake"ness, etc. The article itself is entertaining, but discussing a show like "The Bachelor" as if it were a socially significant, deep-thinking exploration of human values and the meaning of "love" is silly.

It's entertainment, giving viewers the opportunity to choose sides without harm. The people on the show KNOW they're on TV. Anybody out there act differently when in front of others than when they're alone? Uh huh. Now put a camera and sound crew in the room. Your vocabulary becomes very limited, especially (I'm sure) due to contract and legal ramifications.

    But people still watch.

It's entertainment, not a PBS documentary. It's a keyhole look at fantasy dating (sigh) with simulated environments designed to bring out the best/worst in the contestants in a short period of time.

Editing is key, and the producers "let" you/us see what THEY want shown....not the contestants. So what? Why allow entertainment to manufacture mood swings in YOU? Just enjoy the show (soap operas have existed for DECADES), pick your side, and ride the ride to the end, if it suits you.

Otherwise, just watch something else. There's absolutely no reason to be "judgemental" of the contestants, given they are limited in WHAT they can say (both in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes PER THE CONTRACT), and are "encouraged" (I'm sure) to do some things that wouldn't come naturally to ANY OF US in front of a camera....just for the viewers.

It's a fun show to watch, regardless of the outcome (it isn't YOUR outcome...it's THEIRS), and the drama/entertainment keeps people coming back for more.

If you don't like what and how it's put together, change the channel.

I think it's funny how when Jake would pull into a new town, he would be in an Expedition with Jersey tags, but when pulling up the driveway it mysteriously changed to a Suburban, with a West Coast tag. They're not even the same! One is Ford and one is Chevrolet. lol I'll give them credit, they were both black with tint. =)

If Jake thought Ali was slipping thru his fingers and thought she was the "one".........why didn't Jake end the show right there and ask her to marry him before she left? That would've been a great ending....plus to see the faces on the other girls by telling them that there is no rose ceremony tonight because Jake has picked Ali........now, that's great TV!

I love it, you made me LOL... I think this bachelor is so cheesy... I hope he finds what he is looking for, but with all these drama queens I'm not sure. He tells everyone of them he has like a big special connection and he is in love with all of them, I don't know you, but I don't think that's possible, you could have "Feelings" for more than one person, but love more than one person at a time, means you don't rally love any of them. It's obvious, when Ali was doing all that drama, all she was looking for was re-assurance, she wanted to "break" Jake, and she wanted to hear if she was "The One", sorry gal, you did him a favor. I wish he chooses Tenley, just because she is so fragile and so cute, but I have read he ends up with Vienna, what the h** is wrong with this guy. Anyways, good luck to Jake; I really think this season is not that awesome.

You guys should read the recaps at EW.com – a lot better than this – much funnier.

For those of you worried about what this says to the younger generation, the morality of the show, etc., you don't get reality TV. It is about watching a train wreck, and this season is as good as any of them for that. Anyone watching reality TV for a lesson in how to live, needs some professional help.

As far as the women, Tenley is his perfect crying, boring, and somewhat wierd match. Gia would be the best pick for some short term fling, which is what most of these shows result in. Vienna is the worst, but rumors are that is who he picks. As far as Alli, she's trying the Ed strategy, but doesn't seem to be working as well.

Ultimately, I think Jake may be on the other team, and because of his conservative Christian values, he can't admit it to himself.

Now i hear Vienna is a bar hopping table dancer or something. Shes got a couple of tats one on her ankle how awful. One on her hip. Spells cheap to me. Gia looks real pretty but is about as smart as Jessica Simpson without the personality.Tenley is trying to look like Jennifer Aniston and i don't think thats a good look. Plain Jane IMO. Ali had some real ugly legs.Fat knocked kneed pidgen toed. Jake could of had a hot looking virgin. Corre,That would of been a great start for a wife. I liked Jessie she was mellow and very pretty. I think she would be easy to get along with. You know she could of let how boring Jake is slide off her back and be a good wife.IMO The ones that are left i would pick Gia she is hot. At least Gia would be a dream in bed

I really have to clap for Mr. James Dinan. Your recap was hilarious, however the sad part is that it was so true. #1 Ali– I believe she made the right decision because he has 3 other women to choose from and she has her career at stake so she needed to leave for her job. #2 I believe Tenley needs to take time to get over her ex-husband and not jump back into a relationship. #3 Gia is a beautiful young woman, however I agree that she is not the substance for an person that likes a woman that can speak well and communicate. There is something almost "blonde" about her. She seems sweet but not for Jake in the long haul. I do see that he is very attracted to her though. And last of all Vienna is 23 for goodness sakes. She is too young and spoiled. I had the impression that her father was wealthy and he just looked like an average middle income Joe.... I believe for her it is just a contest to win. She is the least attractive of all the women.

PLEASE this reality tv is not real! They are hoping everyone who watches doesn't have a memory or is not really paying attention to anything but the drama. It worked so well with Ed (ratings) last time they have Ali doing the same thing only she is a horrible actress. "vienna" I know I have seen on at least one other tv show. Same thing with The Bachelorette last season. One of the guys was on another program shopping for a house with a different name. They say reality but sorry it's not real.

I definitely questioned Jake's final 4 choices. Vienna is psycho and way too young & immature to be in a real relationship. Not very attractive either. Meeting her family should have been a big clue to Jake to run the other way!! I don't know what he sees in her. I did like Ali up until this last episode when she started with the whining and pouty face. The fact that she chose her job over Jake shows that she wasn't ready to take things to the next level. I mean, what was she planning on doing if Jake did propose to her in the end?? I do agree that Gia seems sweet, but not sure how deep of a person she is. Of the 3 that are left, Tenley is now my frontrunner. She seems like the most sincere, and on the show for the right reasons. We'll see if Jake comes to his senses.......

I hope that Jake will pick Tenley. I like the fact Tenley dance for Jake.
And Jake likes to dance as well. I like Jake & Tenley together. I have been married and divorce. Its alright to talk about your former marriage. Its tell the person hey I don't want to go down that same route again. Tenley is saying hey it takes two to marriage work Not one person doing it all. Its a give and take in a marriage. Tenley is over the ex husband.
Tenley is ready to get married with the right man for her. I like Jake & Tenley together. Jake will find a lot of good things in Tenley. I don't like the way its going the same way as Jillian & Ed did. It would be neat that Jake open his heart to Tenley more so she knows what he wants in a marriage. Ali needs to grow up. Or less Jake likes one that likes to act like a kid.

once the lights dim, it's a little hard to discover you have found yourself, in the case of Jake, KNEE DEEP, in the muck and mire of what is the WT of Princess Vienna's family and lifestyle, and they are hoping to be sucking some of that green their way. Gia needed to give more of her personality and future plans to Jake, to get to know her, I love Tenely..I believe they share strong family/faith values, I don't see her as needy, she has owned up to her part in the loss of the marraige, she has recovered. sometimes one of the hardest part of recovery, is SHOWing that–cuz you're afraid it looks fake, so you try NOT to show it (yes I did this for a living). Our winner was Ali, she was not faking, she hurt-it's hard to cry on cue for a camera, but I don't believe one tear she shed, didn't hurt. God, I will pray for either Ali or Tenely-Gia needs school for confidence training and vienna-keep her whereever the trailer was, in whatever cornfield, as long as it doesn't move up to Nebraska, please, I'd beg to keep that s--out of here., I have grandsons!!!!!

I agree with most, if not all of the comments out here that none of these "girls" are right for this clueless bachelor.I wish they would raise the bar of intelligence and increase the age of both the men and the women to 30 plus yrs.I think the maturity level and immaturity stints would be few and far between. The network, from what ive read...is going to lose a ton of viewers because of the crap they have been producing over the last few years.Give us customers something viable to keep our interest or get off the air for good.I watched a new show after the super bowl, bosses going undercover to really find out how their companies work and looking to improve life for their employees, was very uplifting and enjoyable, unlike this crap the bachelor is putting out every week.

I do like Vienna for Jake. You see, Jake's personality is not very adventurous and exciting. Whereas, Vienna's is more vibrant, fun and naughty which I think would match Jake's without a problem. Tenley and Jake are too perfect and boring for each other...they are too alike I think. Gia is ok but I think Vienna fits Jake better. Ali...I think will be a headache for Jake later on. She can be bitchy. Vienna is more true to herself, candid and natural. And that's what Jake wants. I think Jake will truly have fun with Vienna throughout their marriage...it's just the way she is. I hope it's Vienna and Jake. And as for Vienna's dad....that's normal for any father who is very protective of his daughter.

The producers have overdone their job. Jake will probably end up turning down all the girls, flying to San Fransisco, showing up at Ali's work, like in "An Officer and a Gentleman" and proposing to Ali. It's all so contrived. Ali's behavior last night was disappointing and the other girls have big issues. Jake isn't a smart man which explains his poor decisions and lack of vocabulary. This has been an unsatisfactory season for the bachelor...and the audience.

I think since there has been so much drama on the show already, they needed to keep it "drama flowing" and Jake was going to elimate Ali, the producers had already approched her as a possible next Bachlorette, so they "created" the whole "I'm going lose my job if I don't leave right now!" scene to keep people following the "drama" and still be able to say "the most dramatic and exciting rose ceremony YET!"

It seems like Jake may be trying to bore us all to death while the women wreak havoc around him. In typical Bachelor fashion, he's falling in love with multiple people and get's his heart broken each time one of the women who, by the way, he hasn't selected as "the one," act out and implode in an effort to generate some steam. And, how is it that Vienna stays under Jake's moral radar? Maybe it's the neon teeth. Jake seems to be a desperate nice guy who needs a couple of courses on how to pick chicks.

If Jake chooses Vienna, I will stop watching the show. Plus, Jake is not the most intelligent bachelor out there. His vocabulary is a bit limited. I would like to see new people on the show instead of always someone from the previous season. By default, I would choose Tenley.

All these girls are fake. If I remember correctly, it was Tenley who mentioned that she was pregnant in one of their promos. So most probably she is out. I don't think he liked either Gia's or Vienna's family but since he likes Vienna more, he will probably give her the final rose but not marry her. I am not willing to believe anyone would be that stupid to marry Vienna who has a brain of a 10 year old.
As far as the next bachelorette is concerned, I say it should be Rozlyn. She would sleep with all the guys and make them happy.

Ali was my favorite of the four. She had a real job, didn't speak like she was nine, and had the least amount of "Oh Jakey, just please don't hurt me!" in her 20 minutes of tape. If he has a brain, he'll find her once the show is over. Then again, if he had a brain, he'd have four much better women. But he was probably just doing whatever his parents told him to do. They give good advice, I hear.

How do two people fall in LOVE? from the outside in or from the inside out? showing the best interest in the other or showing his or hers interest for themselves?chemistry?beauty?brains?maintenance high or low?needs?time more or less?more choices or less choices? What makes the best CHOICE is when you know ahead of time what's important to you then you weigh the evidences of the choices that are important to you. I think the show should give a "Guide" or Manual that could help "fit" the the two together. Better yet have a marriage guider help put the love birds together. Then maybe we could learn better waysof having good marriage outcomes for the future. Wally

This commentary was right on the money – I have not watched the bachelor or bachelorette because the whole premis was so stupid, yet I got roped in this year. Here is my 2 cents:

Jake says the same things (for the most part) to all the girls, he answers questions with a question until he finds out what the girl wants the answer to be, then gives it in some sort of "deep" revelation only to have the girl "feel a connection" with Jake Smoothy.

Vienna is in to win, most likely a red-neck at heart, and has a creepy family all around. She may have also mud-wrestled in the past.

Gia is beautiful but may have a double digit IQ. We didn't even see the place they live, just a restaurant, so what's up with that?

Tenley is putting on a huge act and has so much baggage that would destroy the marriage. She doesn't even seem like she can make a decision and would just crumble at the first sign of conflict.

Ali – what an act. The crying was terrible and "i am leaving because of my job???" She is an Advertising Account Manager – need I say more?

This silly show is too entertaining. The write ups after each episode are so hilarious, that is what keeps me watching. This writeup and Kristen Baldwin's. I laugh until I am in tears. Jake is very cute, but not so sure that mature. Ali was a big huge "B" but has calmed down some, but to have to leave to go back to her job is just a complete fake. Am sure her employer knew she would be gone for a while. Something fishy for sure. Vienna is way creepy and her relationship with her Dad is pretty scarey. She is a hill billy tramp. Tenley is to fixated on her former marriage and way too soon for a new relationship. She needs to get rid of her baby voice too. Gia, prob. the best, but doesn't have too great of a past either. None of these girls and they are girls and not women are best for Jake. I am not sure that Jake needs to grow up some more. Yikes.

And how can Jake say he is in love with all four of them real love is so special it makes you smile all the time, your heart beat faster he cant feel any of those things for all 4 girls maybe it is man lust.
I have my fingers crossed for Tenley .

For a guy who seems really sincere and not like he is just in it to hook up with 25 chicks, he could not have picked a worse final 4. Gia is a swimsuit model with no education or substance, how could he honestly see a future with her? Tenley is adorable but she is on the young side and clearly she is still rebounding. Ali was the most suitable for him, which is why she was smart enough to leave! And if after all this he ends up with an unemployed 23 year old topless model that all the women hated and apparently has had that problem for her whole life, then he deserves an Oscar for his acting – he had me believing that he was really serious about finding love, and there's no way he would pick Vienna if he was.

Is daddy's girl and she's used to being a pampered princess. That's going to be a hard act for Jake to follow. Tenley is not ready to serious yet with a another guy. She's definately not over the fact that she's divorced. And then there's Ali. I think Jake likes her the most but she needs to go back to her job. There is not many jobs out there. I think part of the criteria with being on the Bachelor is you have to say "amazing" at least 10 times during each episode. And when the bachelor shows up in your home town, you must be 50 ft. away so you can get a great running start towards him and jump in his arms like your a long jumper in the Olympics.
The home visits are quite comical. I can't even imagine having this type of scenario in my own home and honestly, Vienna's relationship with her father seems a little too close. Gia's brother threatening Jake is a joke since her brother is about 100lbs., when wet. And I really enjoyed going into Ali's Grandmother's home with no furniture but her photo on the top of the fireplace.
I really started to cry when Ali kept whining on what she was going to do...NOT! Go back to your job because if Jake really wanted her, he will go get her. But based on his response as soon as he walked back in the door to the other 3 women, she's out. WOOHOO!! ladies, we're headed to St. Lucia. Ali who?

It is so silly and scripted I can't believe it. I personally would not even be interested in a guy like Jake. "awsome" is about the only word he knows to describe anything and is he really this "nice"? I can't believe he says he is fallen or falling in love with these girls. It would not take me 25 men and all of these dates and "kisses" (in front of cameras) to know who I cared for or even if I did. I guess I keep watching just to see if this soap opera can get any worse. Personally I would not wait on Jake to choose if he cared for me or not. I have never competed for attention from someone with 25 other women. The whole idea of finding love this way is a joke. Yes, I know I still watch it tho.

This show reads like a Danielle Steel novel. Yes, I admit in my younger years I read Danielle Steel. It's so predictable and generic. At any given time you could just plop any former contestant (or bachelor/bachelorette) into the current show and we'd never know the difference. Oh and the use of "awesome" is sooooo really really really annoying. At first I thought the Ali drama was to create her opportunity to be the next bachelorette, but ABC has jumped the shark sooo much already with this installment it would not surprise me at all if Jake dumps all 3 of the final chicks and heads back to San Fran. As he has stated many times in each and every episode, this is a really really really huge deal.

I really liked Ali and wanted her to win, but last nights "performance" was a bit much. It was whiny and fake. Vienna is a dirty leg that just wants to get on Jake. Gia is just odd. Tenley is super sweet but I don't think she's ready to get married again. I'm anxious to see what happens next week. Tenley's dance will earn her a spot on Dancing with the Stars after she gets the boot. I can't get past Gia's "Joker" mouth to even hear what she says. Ali should have stayed, if only to parlay it into a better job offer and a shoe-in as next Bachelorette. If the rumours are true and Jake chooses Vienna, my hunch he has been looking for a dirty girl will be proven true. He's a closet freak, parading as a white bread geek. I also hope the network throws in a lifetime supply of dark circle eye concealer for that girl.

First of all I agree with all that Dina has said. I usually don't watch this show for the very reason that she speaks of. This show is like legalized prostitution on tv! One man/woman is allowed to date numberous men/women at the same time and to top it off...the last four are asked if they want to share a room w/him! Get real...who wants to share any man that you're interested in with anyone else!!! As far as Jake...he's as immature as the rest of them but if he has to pick one...the most mature would be Tenley.

This show is getting more and more ridiculous each year. The "girls" this season remind me of The Bad Girls Club, dumb, uneducated and/or not very classy. Jake seems like a nice enough guy and nice looking but doesn't seem to have a connection with any of the girls, in my opinion. He didn't seem upset at all about Ali leaving. I don't really like any of the girls and Jake seems real ho hum to me. I wouldn't be attracted to him at all. He has zero personality. Gia is pretty but seems like a 17 year old airhead and very insecure. Tenley is the only one who seems viable but has too much baggage at this point in her life. I don't like Ali at all. She's a manipulative trouble maker. Vienna is self-centered, not very pretty (not that it matters what you looks like) and has no substance. I can't believe no one on these boards could see how little Jake cared that Ali was leaving. He's not much of an actor! The whole show is ridiculous. I just watch for the entertainment.

Jake is just like a hot girl. The most attractive people rarely have a good personality, because they never had to develop one. Girls have thrown themselves at him since puberty. He never had to learn to be funny, carry a conversation, etc. because the girls didn't care. He was attractive and that's all they were interested in. It shows painfully on this show because anything other than pleasantries just gets his smile/laugh combo and then some awful soap opera line. They must have given him a book of these to read or coach him on what to say. Gia reminds me of the octomom, there is too much collagen and work going on there and she's as vapid as you could expect from a "model". Tenley seems nice but also probably has some deep seated emotional problems you wouldn't find out about until it was too late and she stabs him in his sleep. Vienna is just stupid but she knows how to manipulate a guy so she's doing fine. I think Jake will wind up picking Vienna but will shock only the female viewers when he dumps her on the after the rose show for Chris.

Alli was SO fake. She was trying to force Jake into picking her. It was all a set up. But she comes back next week. Or at least calls. I don't think he will pick any of them because they all have extra baggage and he really isn't truly in love with any of them. I have always liked Vienna from the very beginning. She is the only one that really makes him laugh. I don't understand why Alli was so against her from the get-go. I think she was jealous, but Alli is the total fake one. I hope he thinks of his happiness and gets the h- out before it's too late.

Ali did exactly what she accused Vienna of doing. If you have to choose between paying your bills and a man that is sucking face with three other women, you need your head examined. I hope this is not a repeat of last year. Making the wrong choices and then changing your mind. He is very wishy washy about the three left. No sparks are flying in the kissing scenes. I've found the solution to sitting in front of the TV for two hours while THE DRAMA of The Bachelor wears on. On The History Channel there are two awesome shows that run in the 7-9 CST time slot that The Bachelor does. One is about a Vegas Pawn Shop - the guys are a riot - call "Pawn Stars" and the second is an Iowa-based show called "American Pickers" where two guys travel the midwest in search of buried antiques and collectibles. Mike and Frank are a great pair and keep the show moving. CHECK THESE OUT and then just flip over at about 10 to the hour to see who Jake sends off that week. That will save many useless minutes watching the pathetic bachelor pick over his 'awesome' selection of girls.

Thank God for this review today. The Ali "must make the most difficult decision of my life" was so ridiculous and clearly staged/ directed by the show's producers. Give me a break!!! Obviously, in the edit room, when it became clear that Jake is in love only with Ali, the producers had to create the obstacle before the happy (and surprise) ending. This show has become so "paint by the numbers" over the past few seasons, that I can barely watch it.

It was so fake. Ali was like a whiney little baby...if it were true that she had to decide between Jake and her job – she was trying to use it to her full advantage and guilt Jake into begging her to stay. Good for Jake in letting her go home. That certainly came back to bite her in the back! I don't have a reading for any other the others as I only half-way pay attention to the few episodes I've seen. Vienna seems fake or like she's out just to win the prize...her father was overbearing...made me wonder why she needs a husband when she has her "daddy" to spoil her. Unfortunately, I have watched every Bachelorette and Bachelor episode since they started. This one is so painful to watch, it actually hurts. I was stunned when I heard he was the next Bachelor – At first he seemed like Mr. Goody Two Shoes and now, he is kindof scarey. Hasn't anyone else noticed his anger tendencies? Wow. Then, as someone pointed out, he got rid of all the girls with any hint of intellect and narrowed it down to dimwits, what the? Last nights episode was a waste of my precious life minutes – seriously?! Gia is a total airhead with a lisp that drives me crazy – she's WAY too insecure. She would be a trophy for him, not a wife. Ali can stay gone – she was a control freak, that relationship would never have lasted. Vienna – OMG, why do I see her and her family in the news one day in connection with a murder plot? Can you say "white trash"? Her relationship with her father isn't unhealthy its dysfunctional and incestuous at best. Run, every man in the world, Run! Tenley I like the most, if I HAVE to pick one. She seems genuine, she has put herself out there and I liked her family. However, hasn't anyone seen how "evil" she is when she thinks the camera is not on her? She is snide and wicked toward the other girls – she is not the innocent airhead she's trying to portray. I see years of therapy in her future. I honestly don't care who he picks – I just want to see who will be the next Bachelorette . . . hmmm, maybe ABC will actually pick someone who NEEDS help finding love, like an older more mature person who actually deserves a loving relationship and can't find a mate. Geeze, imagine that – doing a REAL person's life some good. Just a thought.

Ali: Total disppointment. Since when do you take your date to your dead grandmothers house? We may be old fashioned but ice cream or coffee would have worked. Who picks a job over her dream love. HOT MESS!!
Tenley: Would be my pick if she could have a voice over. Just let go! It's not cute to constantly compare your date to your ex husband.

As I recall Jake came back for some more airtime to warn Gillian about Wes. Look at the dresses and you will see the personalities. I would be very suspicious of a man that thinks he feels love for all four girls at once. Since Jake basically said that he loved their daughter to all the parents, I thinks some of the parents were being told convenient lies. Ali, you are well out of the line up. You were right to question how Jake could be attracted to you and Vienna at the same time. Trust your instincts. I bet the chances of you being successful with your job and getting another man equal or better then Jake are considerably higher then betting on Jake.

Well, here's my take on the girls and what may happen. Vienna: she's a divorced at 23 years white trash, ex-Hooter's waitress with fake boobs, spoiled brat whose relationship with Daddy is downright scary! She's in it to WIN, not to find love because she loves herself more than anyone and always will. She is immature and said a couple of weeks ago that she wants the "fairy tale life" and I guess that means a Sugar Daddy who will do whatever you want.

Tenley: not over her divorce yet, and probably won't be for a long time. Immature, needs to grow up. That dance was lame and wasn't really that great at all especially if you consider that she's been dancing her entire life, or so she said. lol She's pretty but that family was just a little too saccharine for me.

Gia: dumb as a doorpost. Plastic surgery queen. Strange mother, she was really weird. Past boyfriend who slept with everyone shows she has poor judgement. She doesn't have much personality and her vocabulary is like, like, like, really awesomely bad, like I mean, like it's almost elementary. And those fingers in her mouth! Please! It isn't cute anymore, Gia! Needs to grow up.

Ali: Strong-willed, seems to be stubborn, probably made a huge mistake last night. She's the only one with a real career and she seems to be the most mature of the bunch. I think she and Jake have a real spark and would have a lot of fun together. She will definitely be a challenge for any man.

The preview of next week's episode showed Ali calling Jake. Then it breaks to St. Lucia where he's making out with all the other girls. Then there's a garden shot and as Jake is apparently waiting you see a helicopter in the sky....makes me think that Ali is coming back for something....whether it's to rejoin the group or what I don't know. But remember that Jake told Ali that she wasn't on the line last night, so he had planned to get rid of either Gia, Tenley or Vienna, if you believe what he told Ali. Which one was not going to get a rose last night? I think Gia but wish it was going to be Vienna.

Who ends up with the rose? I don't know but hope it's Ali. She's the most mature of the bunch and I think she is the only one who will be a challenge for Jake intellectually.

Suggestion for the next Bachelor, start out with less girls and show some of the real action. We don't see any conversations concerning their jobs or family or past that much. Ali may have talked a lot to Jake about how she enjoys her job and/or about how much time she really had to take off work...Tenley, Gia, and Vienna have no substance because we don't have the chance to see them talking about anything other than how much they "love" Jake and their ex's. Producers need to get to the guts of relationships or their not going to have a show anymore.

I really like Ali. I hoping they will bring Ali back. Gia is lovely, but LIKE they don't fit. Tenley? She needs time to heal. As for Vienna..Ugh!!!! She's not even nice looking. She is horrible and I can see why NO ONE liked her. Is her family mafia????????? When all the girls let Jake know how catty and nasty Vienna is, why does he keep her??does he wear blinders???????

Ali is darling. I think they have something in store for us all. I would love to see Jake ask that they bring her back>>kinda like Ed and Jillian

Really! He picks Vienna!!?? They will both live happily never after in their vacuum!!
This will be my last year watching the Bachelor...unless of course Ali is the bacholette!! Just kidding...last year....I mean it....no more Bachelor! It's almost as embarrasing as watching Celebrity Apprentice...which I don't...well I do...but this is the last year! I mean it! Oh, if Idol picks Stern I will not watch it, only watching this year because of Ellen...well not really...well sort of...ok...Simon...I mean since it's his last year I'm sure he'll be extra special creepy!! Alright I may watch just the beginning if they get Stern. Well, maybe the entire season but it's my last time!! Reality TV is like one big embarrasing car crash...you just have to look!!

My wife puts this on so she can watch Castle after. I don't know why she can't just change the channel. Why is this show on? I don't get it. No way anyone on there ever acts "real" with a camera following around. Contrived drama. Shallow. Sappy, stupid, children pretending to be all grown up. And is there ever an episode where Jake finds his rose decision easy?

I'm so glad I have books. My wife doesn't like it when I heckle. This is a good exercise in self control. Must not heckle. Must not heckle.

Well, the fact that he got rid of the intelligent, educated women first and is left with the "dumb blondes" is a clue that he is not looking for a true "partner in life", but a pliable girl who has no life of her own. Ali was the only one left with any substance. I find it interesting that there was no real dialogue between them (probably edited out) and mostly crying and kissing. I'm disappointed with the lack of substance in this season. And, I agree that Ali's leaving does look a lot like the last Bacelorette. Perhaps a "formula"??

Has Jake not the brains to see that the same thing is happening to him that happened to Jillian.. precipitated by him flying in special to tell her what dog, the country singer was there only for promoting his cd. Jillian really chose not to believe Jake and stayed with the guy. Now Jake chooses to blame jealousy for how all the girls felt about Vienna and he chooses not to believe them but do what his zipper is telling him.

I thought Jake was a good choice in the beginning. But I no longer like him, he now seems fake to me. He was not going to pick ALI but he would have let her stay and lose her job rather than give her any indication. I think ALI did the right thing although I WAS ANNOYED at how she whined and cried. It left me thinking her weak instead of strong as she been. I think she really thought Vienna was going to win Jake in the end and she knew she couldn't handle him picking Vienna over her. This pain was better. Don't come back, Ali. And if he chooses Vienna, I hope they enjoy the sex because they will never stay together. He will never stay with Tenley or Gia. I think this bachelor is screwed as far as really finding a wife.

I think Vienna does have a VERY UNHEALTHY relationship with daddy-poo....uh huh
Wish Gia would stop biting her nails...don't know why a beauty like her is so insecure.
Tenley has way too much baggage over the divorce (get over it already or don't go on shows like this)

Ok here the down low. Ali tells Jake that she has to choose between her job and him. Is this really that hard of a decision for Ali, or is her ego getting in the way. Because if Vienna wins (which is being reported on some sites) Ali would probably jump off of some bridge in Ma. Secondly, looked to me like Jake didn't make much of an effort to keep her there, and she was looking to see if he was going to pick her, which obviously he wasn't. So this all being said: Ali stay home, and enjoy your job. Oh wait next week she calls and probably will get back on the show. That's when I no longer watch this show. Be careful ABC, be very careful. Tenley's the girl. Beautiful, hot great dancer (check her calfs out) and just a good person. Oh and Vienna's dad is a moron.

LOVED your recap of the show-HAHA! You are a very funny writer!! 🙂
    Here's my take -
Gia is being groomed to be the next new Bachelorette.
Vienna will be the one chosen by Jake ONLY because, as past history of ALL Bachelorette shows has shown, they edit all the shows to make the villian be the "least suspecting candidate", and in the end, that's exactly who he chooses - for "Shock Value" ratings at the end. It's all so predictable and scripted by now.
Ali was my first choice, but lost all respect when she had her longggggg breakdown before the rose ceremony & left the show. It wasn't because she had a job to get back to, she just wanted to coerce Jake into telling her she had a shot at being his choice. Why on earth not wait until "after" that rose ceremony to "see" if you'd get a rose first before the big theatrical breakdown to make everybody stop & wait and wait and wait....and wait... then she's on the floor, crying in the hallway, then in the limo, then she calls him on the phone next week when he's already in St Lucia with the other three. WTH?
This show drives me absolutely crazy. And I hate it that I'm still watching it!!!!!! uuuuuggghghhhh.

She's immature and a total manipulator. I have heard rumors that she is going to be the next Bachlorette... NOOOOOOO!!! I will never watch this series ever again if that happens. As soon as Jake says a girl is "amazing", it's a kiss of death. He ALWAYS says that just before he sends the girl home! He needs to broaden his vocabulary and his taste in women. I don't see him ultimately ending up with any of the remaining girls.

Just to put the matter to rest, I read somewhere - don't remember where–, that Ali does NOT return to the show. So that's that. Jake came this close to beaking his silence and telling her he would marry her. He even said "I love you", which may very well be a first in Bachelor history. However, something was lost in translaiton, she did not get the memo, and opted for the 'sure thing' and left the Bachelor 'devastated'. After last night, it was obvious to me that Jake had fell and hard for Ali, a fact which was unbe knownst to all of us until last night, thanks probably to too much editing. He has nothing in common with Gia, Tenley and her family are still too hung up on her ex, and Vienna is just lusty for Jake and him for her.... In other words, for me, last night was the last episode.

There is some ugly stuff that came out about Vienna-atleast according to US weekly, her ex-husband said when he was off to Iraq or wherever, she lived like a single gal, and used his money to buy a boob job, amongst other things. I have never liked her and the "daddy's gir'" stuff is getting old. When you're 10, you're a daddy's girl, not when you're an adult. She is definitely spoiled and her Dad has perpetuated this problem even more. I do like Gia and think she's gorgeous but I am also bothered that she doesn't seem that intelligent. Tenley, the good girl stuff and the constant happiness and smiling is just sickening and if she is recently divorced and hasn't had alot of life experience (at 23) I do not think she is a good pick for Jake. But I hear he picks Vienna and God help him!

Ali was the only girl who worked. Tenley is not over her ex husband, and is a walking "oops I got drunk and slept with my boss" waiting to happen. Vienna scares me, and has lazy bon bon popping succubus written all over her. Gia is like, so like, um, hee hee, like totally, like sheltered and living a lifestyle not condusive to a normal working person. Of the three remaining "choices" I think Gia is the one, but so far from the one at the same time. I hope (and based on the teaser trailer for next week I think it will happen) Ali makes a return a la Greg Brady clone Ed from last season of the Batchelorette.

I think the "surprise" is this: The phone call from Ali will be the deciding factor for what Jake does next. It doesn't matter who makes it to the final two. He will pick no one. But that's not the surprise. The surprise will come when he hops a plane to San Francisco and surprises Ali with a visit. He'll then go down on one knee, tell her he can't imagine life without her, and propose. Whether Ali accepts his proposal or not remains to be seen. That's my 2 cents worth anyway...

Hello Ali...don't you know that the door will open up for you to get another job just by being on the show? She must think that after the show, if she doesn't marry Jake that things will go back to "normal"...not possible, ask Melissa (Dancing with the Stars). Usually I have someone I really like and hope and hope he picks her, not this time. Ali was just too confrontational for me, Tenley acts like a 12 year old, Vienna and Gia are pretty clueless. I'm hoping that there would have been someone early on that would have been right for him, but I'm afraid he never got the chance to find out.

Sounds like they are grooming Ali to be the next Bachelorette which, let me tell you would be a big mistake, none of these ladies should do anything but go back to their lives before The Bachelor. This season has been a disaster so it would not be a good idea to carry over any of the characters. Jake, if you are attracted to women like Vienna, it's no wonder you are 31 and still single. I had a huge laugh when Vienna's parents indicated she's encountered jealous women. Why would any woman be jealous of a self serving, immature, opportunistic daddy's girl? She has no life experiences. She EXPECTS to be taken care of (daddy did Vienna no service there). She's been enabled all her life! And how many car wrecks does it take before her family realizes she is not an accountable or responsible lady. My guess is that if she wins the heart of Jake, she will tire of him because the conquest has been won. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that it would NEVER LAST!

No wonder Jake has never has much luck with women. If he is truly fallen for Vienna, he's looking for a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Vienna is not exactly attractive......which is kinda irrelevant. But what makes her 'fugly' is her lack of remorse, her lack of sensibility and her outstanding ability to undermine and manipulate. Not exactly a virtuous woman by any means ( and certainly not MOTHER material).

I honestly thought the visit in Tenley's home blew me away. I lost my own wife in '92 to leukemia, and what I went through then is very much like what Tenley is going through with the divorce. The phases are the same. tI would be normal to refer to the ex a lot. It was VERY courageous for her to do that dance for Jake, and Jake's acceptance of it moved me deeply. I also enjoyed how her mom tried to help Jake understand what he would expect if he did give her that final rose – then mom affirmed that Tenley could handle it if he loved her. I hope she wins – but whatever happens, what she is doing is very, very courageous for this point in her life. She blows me away.

" I think all of this is about where am I going after the show"
I just couldn't imagine why anyone male or female would want to be on a show, making everyone think they are so desperate to find love that it comes to this.

bye Ali!!!!! Thanks to the people who clued me in on the job card. Geeeeez!!! I wish her job would say, she LIED. Did she REALLY think Jake would have ended the show just for her to keep her job, and tell her she's the one?

Does she NOT know that only TWO relationships have lasted, and MOST don't last until the "after the rose" show?

I don't know how anyone can sit and watch this show. I have seen a few minutes of it and what a joke. I couldn't even it watch it with a straight face. Is this the best we can do??? Bring back 'Everyone Loves Raymond'

I was disappointed last night........Number 1..I can't believe that Vienna is still in the running.....he is only asking for trouble with her.
Number 2...Ali and Jake do have a connection. But she was right to leave the show to go back to work. And I wouldn't be surprise to see her back on the show next week. Does Wes mean anything to you?? And I do have this feeling Jake isn't going to pick anyone. And I hate that. You watch this show (it's a no brainer) and it ends like that.

  248. Kris - Vienna has to GO!

I was upset to see Ali go. I really like her and think she was the best match for Jake.
Tenley – she shouldn't even be on the show if she has recently gotten divorced...she is obviously not healed from her previous relationship. However, I did like her dress at the non-rose ceremony.
Vienna – she is so freaking ugly....and she has NO substance...she talks like a toddler. Hello, she is WT! I have read RS's blog and REALLY hope that he is not right about Jake picking Vienna. If he does, my guess is that it doesn't last...
Gia – I like her, but don't think there is any chemistry with Jake.

    Ali – come back, please!!!!

This is my theory after last night: After Ali left, Jake realizes that his wife is no longer in the room. Either that, or he has known it all along. He gets down the final two and cannot bear to hurt Tenley (she's too sweet and fragile) so he picks Vienna because he knows that she can take the heartbreak and knows that she isn't in it for the right reasons. He seems so serious about finding a wife that I believe he picks Vienna because it is the same as picking no one.
By the "After the Rose" ceremony, I'll be surprised if they are still together.

If my theory and Reality Steve are wrong and he picks Tenley, he'd better be prepared for a serious responsibility because that's what it will be being with an emotional 25-year-old girl who hasn't been in a relationship other than that whom she divorced.

I hope he chooses Vienna and then realizes what a moron she is. I bet he has not seen her semi nude pictures yet. As far as Ali, is this some kind of a new ploy (of choosing between job and man of her dream) adopted by these contestants. Last time that dude from Chicago pulled out the same trick on the Bachelorette and she chose him.

I don't like this Jake AT ALL. He's too full of himself. And he's not attractive at all to me. This season is really hard to watch. The girls all appear to be "dumb". But then again, its a dumb show.

Glad you do these rundowns of the shows. I went through all the tears, but fell asleep before finding out if Ali took a chance on love, or went back to work.

Lea, you're right about Vienna – she is truly scary, and I think we saw from whom she gets that – yikes!

Oh please ! Gag me with a spoon!!! This show it's getting really boring, Ali, not real she is super super fake, and she is trying to do what Ed did to Jillian copycat! Tenley, cute but needs time to fix her issues with her Ex. Gia, very pretty, sweet with everyone not catty at all, but needs to grow up. Vienna, are you kidding me , she needs to go back to FL. Jake needs to find a girl out of the show, a REAL woman. not someone that just want be famous and be in all the magazines!!

I loved the run down. I have shamefully watched all 14 seasons of this show, and last night had to top most of them for creepiness. Gia's mom read his Taro cards, Ali made him meet her dead Grandma, Tenley did a dance (wierd enough) to Canon in D of all songs (she's not good at suttle hints), and Vienna's dad threatened him. It was a strange night, and I'm glad your article showed how ridiculous it was. Oh and I don't know why Ali's choice was so hard, it's her career and livelihood. Not exactly a hard choice. Plus he probably has her number and will just call her up once he realizes proposing to Vienna was a mistake.

I am so glad that Ali is gone...boo-hoo, flip a coin, make a decision, yikes! At first she was as big a B as she accused Vienna of being, worried about who wasn't right for Jake instead of just showing him that she was right for him. Then last night she's "just a mess" and can't make a decision to keep the job she loves or the guy who may or may not pick her and oh yeah has 3 other lovey ladies to spend time with. Sorry Ali, it didn't work, Jake didn't grab your hand and run off with you into the sunset like I think you wanted him to do.
Jake if Ali "calls" and wants to come back.........say "sorry, I've moved on". The Delta Princess, Vienna, and her daddy did seem to be a little too "close".....run Jake, run! Gia and Tenley are both very sweet and pretty but not sure if that's enought. Of the two, I vote Tenley.
On the other hand, I'm not so Jake is the "fabulous catch" we all though he was at the beginning of the season.

Was it my imagination or was Ali constantly saying the word "like" a lot in almost every sentence? Gia is so cute, but I agree with all of you that she is insecure. I love Tenley, but I think she needs to see a therapist to talk about her issues with her marriage/divorce. I don't think she is ready for another marriage yet until she resolves her issues. She's only been divorced 1 year...no? I think Jake was really into Ali because she is pretty, secure and strong. But there was something about her I did not like. Can' put my finger on it. Doesn't matter, she's gone. Vienna is too young. I think Jake would be stupid to pick her.

Excellent take. I like to know how many guys get to date, carouse and get intimate with 25, 15, 10 or 5 women before he decides which one gets to go home with him? They should rename this show the Concubine Challenge. People falling in love with 5 memebers of the opposite sex at one time? What message are we sending the younger generation that's watching this show? I know their minds are oatmeal right now anyway. This is not a reality show....it's a comedy show. Jake is a pilot who has a woman in every city he visits. ALL of the women on this show are shallow......I know that's an newsflash, but it's true. Wake up America.

Please there has to be a catch. Look at this guy and he isn't married? That Tinley needs to grow up and that might have been her problem with her first marrage. She is 25 and acts like she is 15, Vianna is cheap and scary. Ali is the one and I see a pattern here. Didn't Ed do this with Jill? The swim suit model can't keep her fingers out of her mouth. I really deep down think he will choose none of them

When I first saw who they picked for the show I thought hes sooooo great, good job and nice looking and he can't find a mate. What's wrong with this picture. Then to see what he ends up with hmmm... I think all these shows are at the end. We are getting tired of seeing all the drama. I myself only watch the first show and then the last 3. The rest are a complete waste of time. Lets find some real entertainment.

I think that the show promotes much more fantasy than reality. Everything looks too picture perfect to feel normal. Also, I can't imagine too many self-respecting women who would be able to put up with this kind of self-deprecating contest. How can they sit by and patiently wait while Jake flys all over America asking the fathers of all 4 contestants if he can marry their daughters? Its just not natural. It does make for intriguing entertainment on a most ridiculous level.

Well...there were several interesting insights into what some families are like. The absolute worst.....Vienna's family. I'm not psychologist but that girl has a very uinhealthy relationship with Daddy. Whose father barges in on his 23 year old daughter? It's not like the girl is a vestal virgin for pete's sake. She is simply "in it to win it" just like little "Monkey" Shaye Lamas was. I actually liked Ali but last night was a bit over the edge.....Gia seems like a very nice person, but she does appear to be a little shy and unsure of herself. Tenley I think is the best fit for Jake. Her family is great.....I loved her Dad and the 2 talks he had with Jake. Hopefully Reality Steve got lied to and Jake will make the right decision....stearing clear of Vienna would be the best move he could make.....

Let's get real.. please explain to me how 1) these seemingly good looking men (as the bachelor0 or beautiful women (as the bachelorette) can't find someone on their own. Then from what I just read the females that are left are 3 bricks short of a load. if I were him I'd run away and not look back... period. This show has gotten old,,, not awesome... just like American Idol..

JAKE- None of these women are right for you... but if you have to pick pick Tenley... Gia has beauty but really nothing else to keep this relationship going... Vienna – Fake – Fake Boobs, Hair Smile and intentions just wants to win the game... Tenley honest and down to earth yeah so she has been married – 2 sides to that story but from what we see so far... Has Jake's best interest at heart... Something great could develop here and grow into a life filled with happiness...

I have no idea. It is rather bewildering actually why people would want to go on a TV show to find "love" or is it just for fame really? How about something more meaningful like create a show that helps gifted athletes and top students earn College scholarships. There are people who wants to go to college but can't afford it!

For a guy who seems sincere about finding love and getting married, I'm a little surprised by his tremendous attraction to Vienna. I think Ali did the right thing because I agree with Jake that he did let her slip through his fingers. Vienna has toned down her cattiness, but cmon, when almost every girl is telling Jake he has no idea who V really is , he should pay attention. I really liked Jake in the beginning and thought he was there for the right reasons, but I have read he picks Vienna in the end and all I can say if that is the case is his radar is all messed up and I don't see a marriage in their future and if they do get married I am not sure it will last.

It's "amazing" to be watching this. Everything is "amazing". And "awesome". I convinced myself and my girlfriend that Ali had found out she was pregnant, so the drama surrounding her mortal dilemma about whether to stay with Jake or...go back to work...was a bit of a letdown. I like how when she said she loved Jake, he didn't respond. I have now convinced myself and my girlfriend that there was no dilemma, and all that drama was simply Ali trying to manipulate Jake into telling her that she is the winner. Oh and what happened to her lip?!?!?!

With Tenley's visit, I'm certain that the editing contributed to all of the talk about the ex-husband. It's only natural to discuss that when it happened within the past year.

Also, with Tenley showing Jake her passion to dance, I was very impressed! I am a dancer, and I think it could be very scary and potentially awkward to dance in front of one person (especially a guy I am dating). It was brave of her, and she has opened up more than any of the other girls, emotionally.

    As far as the rest?
Ali left, and because she's still young, she puts her job first. She'll be fine (and maybe the next Bachelorette). They were never exactly right for each other in the first place.
Gia is sweet, but insecure. They have fun together, but there's something missing there – a deeper connection.
Vienna is a princess who just wants to "win" so that she's not outshone by the other women. She's not truly there for Jake – she's there for a hot guy who she can claim.

I love your rundown of last nights episode! It would have been a 30 minute show if you were doing it. I would have saved 2 hours of useless drama. Atleast Jake hasn't been doing the naughty with any girls in the hot tub yet. Makeout scenes seem to be the highlight of next weeks show. I don't see how he can like Gia~she doesn't seem like she could carry on a long conversation. Did Ali not tell her job she would be out an extended period of time? Vienna is really scary and her family scarier. If he picks her to marry I think I may have to put him out of his misery.
