A comeback for Whitney?

After seven years, singer Whitney Houston returns with a new album called "I look to you." The sound is upbeat - maybe a sign of things to come for the artist? Hear a clip of her music and other releases out this week.

When G-d gives people voices of angels and they abuse that gift, I get quite irritated. So very few people in the world are given the chance that she was given. So few people ever have an opportunity to reach stardom. Some people say we all have the same opportunities in life, but that is not true!
I get tired of hearing about the 'stresses and pressures' these celebrities have. If you REALLY want to talk stress and pressure, look at the people who are working 12-hour days for $8-10 an hour to feed their families, and NOT the people who work 15 hour days on a TV show and make millions of dollars a year!
I don't feel sorry for her for smacking G-d in the face for the gifts he gave her. ALL THESE CELEBRITIES should be grateful that they have been given the gifts they have to live the lives they live and stop whinning or abusing those gifts!!!!

I am glad God gave her a second chance. No matter how much a great singer a person is, when you are worse your voice is not the same. God give second chance but man put you down. Her cd sounds great, and everyone should just see that it sounds different than on abc good morning america. That woman still can sing. So leave her alone.Wish her good luck and stop put her down.If you don't have good to say leave her alone. What goes around comes around. No man but God is perfect.

For those of you who says Whitney doesn't have it let's see you hold a tune. I'm sure if you looked in the mirror, you will not look like you did 20 years ago, but she still can sing. Love you Whitney.

Whitney is beautiful. Happy. Sober. Up. As usual, the media is ready to kick ALL who are UP or down. The "light" in her eyes is a precursor to what is to come. Praise God!!! Fasten your seatbelts world.

A train reck and she can not open her eyes in any tv shots that I have seen of her. Her voice was same old crack head. I don;t thing she is going to make it. It is a real shame to have so many people and family who love her and yet could not reach her until it was too late for her voice to come back. She didn't have the pazzaz or fire that she use to have. Maybe she can do better making movies.Too bad. I really hate to see her future. Her past was enough drama for a life time.
Now we have to be subjected to even more drama. I just am over anything to do with her. She has lost it.

With all do respect to Ms. Houston

Her singing days are over... Just watched her on GMA and I was totally embarrased for her.

All of you out there who think she still has it are infactuated with what she had in the past and are totally unrealistic.

God bless her and her efforts but .... "IT'S OVER"

I, hope all Ms. Houston critics know that the world is to big for one or two monkeys with a yellow smiley face. What if you were in her shoes you would not be as fortunate.
Anytime you still have the drive to make others feel good inside & put a dance in someone stip you are A ok. This is to me a cup of cold water. Yes I am a Minister, but Thanks be to God, He love LOVE.
And Ms Whitney will MAKE IT.

Her NEW CD CLEARLY MISSES THE MARK for radio in 09. Sadly her vocals are no longer what they used to be and frankly Whitney's career has been built upon providing diva vocals that shine. Clive Davis should have done a better job locating material that sounds contemporary. The dance version of Leon Russell's "A Song For You" sounds as a semi-club hit in Italy during the summer of 1999. TEN YEARS AGO. Her best radio friendly song is without a doubt the final track on the CD.

Vocally, Houston clearly can no longer outsing her rivals Mariah & Celine and she cannot reinvent her musical persona as well as a Madonna or Britney.

Her glory days of "Greatest Love Of All" and "I Will Always Love You are clearly behind her. This supposed comeback is nothing more than much noise from a desperate label attempting to promote a WASHED UP hasbeen rapidly before it falls rapidly from the charts. Maybe she should ask her auntie DIONNE if she needs a substitute backup vocalist to assist her on her next gig at a RENO casino.

her drug habit has taken its toll unfortunately. her high range is GONE and even her riffs/pitch is not as spot on as it used to be. she is still great, but not what she used to be. the material itself it sub par also. this album is disappointing...

The album is great....she has matured over the years! People need to realize she is 46 and not 30 ! Seems like there are so many Clive Davis's and Simon Cowell's out there!

Keep up the good work Whitney ! I want another album !

I like how all these GOD freaks are attaching themselves to Whitney as if she cares what they think. She had her chance at the top and she chose to sqaunder her talent and popularity on that idiot Bobby Brown. People will remember one thing when they see her face, drug addict, that is the absolute truth. It will be difficult for her to overcome the person she let her self become. Sorry Whitney.

It's nice that Whitney Houston is making a comeback, but I am not really a big fan of hers, her attitude in one of her past interviews with Oprah years ago lead me to believe that she's just a spoiled brat that doesn't care about anyone but herself and what she gets, the rise to fame has gone to her head. I only wish Micheal Jackson had the chance to make his comeback, he was only 50, James Brown was much older and he was still dancing on stage before his death. Tina Turner is also older and still has the stuff you'd think she wouldn't have the energy to do. Horray Whitney, Tina, etc.! You go girls!

I love Whitney's New CD and I've been a fan since she first came on the scene, it's fresh and balanced. I honestly think that those of you making rediculous comments need to seriously go into a recording studio and try and record an album yourself and too (randybidcaller) your reference to Whitney being marginal should be rephrased. I can't even begin to sit here and call Rhianna, Lady Ga Ga and Britney Spears marginal except below average which is more appropriate. People stop expecting her to record another Bodygaurd Album her stage presence alone would stop many of you in your tracks and you would beg for an autograph and don't say you wouldn't because you would!
Whitney's accomplishments go untouched and she has nothing to prove especialy to the crop of crap female singers out there today three of them were already mentioned above. The CD is really good and in no way is this CD outdated or it would have never been released.
If some of you would look at the history of female singers, you would learn that alot of them fell down and got right back up. CHER, NATILIE COLE, DONNA SUMMER just to name a few. Her name is Whitney Houston, not crackhead or any other name not given to her by her birth mother. Whitney did get her life together and remember she isn't asking any of you for anything because she doesn't need it.

So glad to hear some real quality music again! I am so tired of all the ignorance in music these days. I am tired of lyrics that are just plain DUMB and are repeated over and over again. We need real singers, real songs with substance and we need to reach a higher level. Tired of hearing about somebody's butt and being in the club. I know that there is SO MUCH more to life than that so let's hear about it!

I Personally say ket the music be the judge. This Track – Million Dollar Bill is a Soft Release.

I predict the Hard Release 1st single – Single entitled "Like I never left " a duet with Akon to be a billboard top ten track. It Was leaked to the DJ community in December 2008 to incredible reviews and I believe it to be currently still capable of domestic and international multiplatnum success.

It has a similar feel to her earlier Wyclef Jean produced hit "with you" but updated for today – and in my opinion better – having the highest production Value of anything Akon/Konvict Productions has produced.

You couldn't have said it any better. And while I may agree Whitney may not be the Whitney she was before her downfall, she's still a heck of a lot better than a lot of the pop stars out there....aka Britney!! To all you haters telling Whitney to fade away and saying no one cares....you must care or you wouldn't have read this story and took the time from your precious life to make a comment.

Go ahead Whitney and do your thang, luv! You still have millions of fans who've been hoping and praying for this day!! God Bless you and the best of luck!!!

I LOVE Whitney Houston's singing – but have always HATED most of the songs she has been saddled with. I've listened to the latest effort – I'm still not impressed. I DO NOT FAULT Ms Houston – the BLAME IS ON THE PRODUCERS & SONGWRITERS who continue to give her songs that don't compliment her voice. SHE SHOULD NOT PERFORM SONGS INTENDED FOR ANOTHER SINGER (Celine Dion), SHE NEEDS HER OWN SOUND. Unfortunately, she still hasn't had that opportunity.

What happened to the whole spirit of the comeback? Anyone who claims to have ever been a fan would at least cheer her on as she tried to get her life back. Compared to the Britneys of the world, no way will I call her a "has been" while I am forced to deal with a sea of "never should haves."

Whitney started out singing in the church choir and unfortunately her decisions landed her in a difficult lifestyle. Drugs, drinking, and of course Bobby. She went to the top in her eyes and back to the bottom. Bobby along with other distractions destroyed her....

My thoughts.....forget about it Whitney. It's done. Stay away from that lifestyle as it'll never be the same ever again!!!Find something else to do with your life. Join a church choir or something but don't aim to live that life again!!!

Whitney WHO?!?!? Hahaha. But seriously, we are too forgiving to these so-called entertainers and role models. The average income of a US Citizen is $60,000 per year. And these artists earn our favor and our interest by upholding a certain level of integrity as well as positive use of their talent (Talent that a lot of us wish we had, no less.), while taking the “Average Joe or Jane’s” almighty dollar as payment for the chance to, not only be entertained, but to live vicariously through the performer, to a degree. Then? They squander it all, live, before a studio audience. Being smug in interviews of drug use, showing off your particular brand of domestic “crazy” for the world to see in reality tv and making a blatant fool of yourself abroad on foreign soil are not reasons to expect that the American Public would see you as a release from their lives through your gift…In fact, it makes us working folks SICK that you can behave in that manner, get away with vulgar drug abuse and admit it and behave without regard for your family or your country and still MAKE millions.

But, this is America, and we so easily forget the disgust we feel. The first catchy radio tune and lemmings will be lining to pay $200 for seats to see Whitney exhalt in her own amazement…And that is our problem. She is UNDESERVING of our hard-earned money.

It's a well known fact that Whitney Houston met Bobby Brown after she was booed at the Soul Train Music Awards for not being "black" enough and for being a sellout. She notes that evening as the worst night of her career. I guess ole Brown saw a crack in her veneer and swooped in. The rest is history.

I was hoping "A Song For You" would be her new hit, but they ruined it by making it a fast tempo song..Clive should have known better. If not him, somebody should have stopped them from ruining that song!! She needed a ballad with strength, power, and a few high notes to prove that she's still got it, " A Song For You" should have been that song...disappointed

Since music isn't going anywhere, I think it's ridiculous to say that it's "too much, too little, too late" to make a comeback. I also think there are very few artists America is ready to welcome back whenever they regain their sanity, and Whitney Houston is one of those women. Her voice cannot be denied, and neither can her continued success. Regardless of the negative posts about her (mostly written by those who aren't even fans of the genre), I think her album will do just fine.

Let's face it – Whitney is a legend; however, the debut song is earily depressing. It reminds me of Steven King's novel "Pet Cemetary" – where your beloved pet comes back to life but is not the same..overall a little creepy.

Does anyone really care about Whitney Houston? Come on she is so over and overrated. Her voice is marginal at best and I think she should spend her time straightening out her life.

    Hey Whitney...Stay gone.

I listened to the whole album–I like it. It seldom sounds like Whitney–but it's not bad, either.

She sounds enough like herself for me to know it's her, but she's lost that edge, that almost superhuman perfection. It must truly take a lot of work to maintain a vocal instrument like she had. I do hope she can reclaim at least most of her vocal ability – the world doesn't get to experience a voice like hers (used to be) very often.

I have to preface my comments with the fact my wife and I named our daughter Whitney after Whitney Houston. That being said, I got the album and so far I'm really disappointed in it. I thought it was going to be a lot better. Maybe it's because it's the first time I heard it and I need to listen to the songs a lot more for it to start having an affect but right now, disappointment.

.. and for the record, I blame Bobbie Brown 99.1% for Whitney's downfall.

    A real shame.

We should all remember that we are not perfect and when we see people struggle with different things in life, we should count our blessings because there but by the grace of G-d could go one of us.

Life is a journey and there may be rough times ahead for us too so we should not be judgemental. When we point a finger at others we should all remember that 3 fingers point back at us.

Throughout my life I have been a champion of the underdog and as such I am truly looking forward to her comeback! May Whitney go from strength to strength.

I'm happy that she has turned her life around and pulled herself up from her addictions. I have listened to a couple songs from her new CD and I am not impressed. She had one of the most beautiful voices and has lost that edge. She still has a powerful voice but it pales in comparison to vintage Whitney.

She has lost some of her once powerful voice, but found a grittiness that I never expected. She still has good control. Has not lost her ability to weave in and out of a tune with ease. I liked quite a few of the songs and I wish her all the best. I am so tired of much of the music out today. Welcome back Whitney, God Bless.

Celebrities are the only people I can think of that receive opportunity over and over again and continue to take it for granted. Why would this time be any different for Whitney. Today's talent is different than that of her era, she'll realize you can only lick a gift horse in the mouth so many times.

I have only heard 2 songs from the new CD & can tell immediately that drugs & time have taken a toll on Ms Houston. Un fortunately she willnot be recovering with a full comeback. She may sell a few CDs & appear on a couple of shows, but she'll never achive the same success she enjoyed. What a shame & waste of talent.

I'm happy that Whitney has come to her senses. She has lost alot of valuable time. I always thought that her and Bobby were never compatible. They, how do you say it "they just did not hookup to me. I was shocked when it was out the Whitney was involved with him". The man has to may "baby's momma problems, money wise".

WHITNEY, hang in there and be "STRONG".

Whitney is one of the great pop icons. She is a phenomenal singer, drop-dead gorgeous, and responsible for some of the most hummable tunes of my childhood. She has since lived a turbulent life and became something of a parody. ...But if she can step back into the light with something pure and heartfelt, she will have my full support!
