June 24, 2009 'Real Housewives' reunitePosted: 12:39 PM ET
There were bubbies, baby bumps and a few tears during the Tuesday night reunion show of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New Jersey.” “Housewives” Jacqueline Laurita, Teresa Giudice, Danielle Staub, Dina Manzo and Caroline Manzo came together in an undisclosed warehouse near their suburban New Jersey community to rehash what has been one of the most buzzed-about seasons of the franchise. A very visibly pregnant Laurita (she has since given birth to a son) sat between the Manzos while the latter’s nemesis - Staub - sat next to Giudice, who is also expecting a baby. Of course there was plenty of conversation about table flipping and “the book.” The rest of the ladies felt it was inappropriate for Staub to pull out “the book” - which reveals her alleged bad girl background - during dinner in the presence of their children, who were asked to leave the room during the discussion. The New York Post is reporting that Staub's background might be even more sordid than she has admitted to on the show involving allegations of drug deals gone bad, a kidnapping plot and an escort service. I thought Staub acquitted herself pretty well during the reunion show by trying to explain that she took a shot at discussing the issue since everyone was there and thought that the presence of the kids (who sat at another table) might actually cause everyone to more civil to each other. Caroline “Mama Bear” Manzo threw out that it would have been better if Staub had just invited them all to her house to chat about “the book." Staub responded how was that supposed to happen, since she was pretty much persona non grata with the group. While I enjoyed that little exchange, the one that really had me enthralled was Giudice trying to defend her husband against Staub’s charges that he used a gay slur during one of their outings. The rest of the ladies dismissed it as juvenile antics and insisted that he embraces gays, some of whom are his friends. Host Andy Cohen took the rare position of inserting himself into the conversation by announcing that he is gay and found the reference offensive - to which Giudice promptly shared that their gay friend said anyone who would get offended is stupid. With that and the discussion about allegations of mob ties, boob jobs, raising kids and infertility issues, who isn’t looking forward to part two of the reunion? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Filed under: television
