May 20, 2009 Religious 'Idols'?Posted: 01:05 PM ET
As just about everyone tries to pinpoint who will win "American Idol" on Wednesday, there is buzz out there in the blogosphere that religious "Idol" watchers, many of whom were Danny Gokey fans, are rallying around Kris Allen. Gokey, who made it to the final three, was well known as a worship leader from Milwaukee, and Kris Allen reportedly also has strong ties to the music ministry at his church in Arkansas. That, coupled with speculation about Adam's sexuality, has led to some talk that there may be a red state-blue state battle going on this season. After part one of the finale on Tuesday night, Rudy Garza commented on this blog that "The conservative Christians will rally around Kris and he will pull it out tomorrow." That elicited a response from ChristiansForAdam, who posted, "Hey Fellow Christians, god doesn’t require you to vote for Kris. In fact Adam is god’s creature also. And remember how some folks didn’t like Jesus cause he was different and a rabble rouser and stuff." But is it about Christianity or just one fan base choosing to switch sides? When Kris bested Danny to make it to the final two, fan BR commented on this blog that "It is clear that all of Danny’s fans will go for Kris. Kris has a great chance of winning the idol. I’m a Danny fan, will be voting for Kris!" – Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Filed under: television |
