An Inside Look At The Miss California USA Press Conference

Press conferences are usually pretty par for the course in the news world. When you walk onto the site you usually see the same thing, just in different locations. Today we were in the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills waiting for press conference being given by the Miss California USA Pageant.

There were cameramen setting up equipment and sound engineers adjusting audio as people from the Miss California Organization were running mic checks. The live trucks lined up along the street; the press conference was televised live all over the world. All of this was going on as journalists scrambled to get seats.

It’s the usual things that you would expect. But then there is always the unexpected, and today was no exception-we were told that they were delaying the start of the press conference because there was a shuttle launch in Florida. It was not lost on us journalists that Trump had just been trumped.

There was lot of buzz in the room, much more excitement for this presser than a lot of others that I have covered. Everyone has been watching the drama unfold and no matter how you feel about Carrie Prejean, the story has something for everyone. Whether you feel that Prejean has been unfairly treated for her beliefs and values or if you are fed up with celebrities taking nude pictures that wind up online, most people can’t turn away from the story.

The press conference today was aimed at clearing up rumors and inaccuracies that are out there about the current situation. Tomorrow is the real judgment day- Donald Trump will decide the fate of this young woman who has become the center of a national debate.

Will Trump say “You’re Fired” to Carrie Prejean? Tune in to Showbiz Tonight at 11pm Eastern and Pacific tomorrow to find out!

I think this started out about Gay Marriage but it ended up being about her nude pics which she says she does not remember taking. She is a liar and untrustworthy.

Shanna Moakler sitting in judgement is the biggest joke of the entire scandal. Her life reads like a trashy tabloid.

She had every right to us (the public) how she felt about gay marriage, and she did tell us ( the public) what she believed....I personally disagree with her, If two people wAnt's to marry, big deal! It has nothing to do with my life, nor my neighbor's, on the other hand, why would the gay community want the institution of marriage when it's statically a failed institution at a rate of 52%......The only people to make out on this deal would be divorce lawyer's!!....As far as religon is concern'd....Jesus is supposed to come back..so is Harry Houdini and I'm still waiting!.........!!

    Trump was right!
The left wing media hammered Miss Cal untill they uncovered a little dirt. But when you look at the photos in question, she showed more skin on TV in her baithing suit! What crap!
Perez Hilton is still quoting bad statistics:
Gay Marriage is legal in only a few states – Fact!
55% of Americans are opposed to Gay marriage -Quinipiac Poll
57% of Americans support civil unions – Quinipiac Poll

CNN needs to go back to reporting the news, not pushing an agenda.

It's a smart business move to not remove Carrie...hey everyone here is still talking about her and the pagent long after it is over! First her photos are so typical model photos...if anything I'm shocked at all the people from California that are acting shocked and appauled by the photos! do you pay attention to the state you live in? There so much more the youth do in that state that those photos are nothing!

She has a rite to not agree with gay mairrage. Sure she didn't articulate it the best way but ultimately she has been slammed because her beliefs. Perez did say "do you agree with gay mairrage, why or Why NOT?" did he forget how he phrased the question?

There are much better individuals within the gay community that could represent their cause because truth is Perez has been way too over the top with his name calling and yelling....face it, it is because her opinion that he is so pissed. Every American has a right to their own opinion that includes this issue. I think it's a shame Perez blew this up so big because if anything it has hurt the cause more than it has helped it. He too should look at his delivery and conduct.

by the way as for the pagent having issues with the photos of Carrie... they sure didn't mind getting into the business of paying for her breasts! what hypocrits..!

This issue was not about freedom of speech, it was about breech of contract. but since everyone seems to be stuck on the freedom issue let's appy what she said about her own father fighting for the freedoms she enjoys, freedoms she is not willing to share with "some" in our society.

the only plausible reason to take the crown would be not revealing the existence of the photographs. Carrie didn't reveal their existence and when the first one was made public, she lied and said it was the only one. The deceit may be grounds for firing her but if they do that to Carrie they would have to do it to Miss Rhode Islande, too, because her pictures are every bit as revealing.

I do think that there is a touch of hypocrisy in Carrie, however. You can't hide behind religious convictions when it suits you and discard them when it doesn't. I don't care if she is a model, there are things that a convservative Christian person, model or not, would not agree to do and these types of pictures are one of those things. You also can't hide behind "that's how I was raised" and keep a straight face. A lof ot people have very differing opinions on important issues than their parents. If you truly believe as your parents do, that's ok, too, but don't try to use the way you were raised as a security blanket to blame everything on and that's what Carrie did.

People also need to quit treating Carrie like a child. She is a 21-year-old woman and that is far beyond childhood. When someone committs a serious crime in their pre-teen years the public wants them tried as adults because they are still old enough to know right from wrong and the public is right. However, when something like this happens especially if the girl is pretty, all of a sudden it's "she's a young girl, she's only 21." The diapers came off long ago.

Of course she should lose her crown. She broke the rules. Period. It doesn't matter how the nude pictures came to be viewed. It doesn't matter what her stance is on the gay marriage issue. She signed her name to a contract knowing the pictures existed. She's a liar and a fake, literally. She says she made a mistake. Now she can suffer the consequences just like everyone else.

For the record, Trump is NOT gonna do it, he ain't...I know Trump and trust me, he has connects and if he does in fact reverse it, he will hear it...TRUST ME, you know it, I know it, Donald Trump is a joke! And if you were Trump, what backlash you'll prefer?? The Anti gay OR the activists?? Exactly, pick your battles accordingly...but I do have one quick comment.

Tell Miss Cali that she is a waste of time, she's a waste!! One minute she's blaming the judges and acts like a damn sore loser, another minute, the greedy b-- doesn't have respect, she really believes it cost her, etc and let me guess what's new?? Hmmm??? Ohh yeah, that Perez Hilton is the Devil and God told her in her mind to say what he wants her to say...can I say something?

You...are...a...joke!!! You are making us look bad you dumb b--!! What are you doing, huh? Don't you know how to talk or something?? Don't you know how to think? And now you're thinking that way?? Listen, I like you Miss Cali, I do, you seem like such a nice, caring, beautiful and lovely woman BUT you are in fact wasting time girl, you are wasting time. And I can't believe you went that far girl...I wonder what San Fran is then huh??

She should not be rejected for what she believes in but she should be rejected if she broke the rules of the competion with the nude pictures of herself. What ever happened to self respect and self decency. If she is a moral person as she insinuates nudity should be saved for her husband to enjoy not every tom, dick, and harry out there.

Mr. Hilton wanted an honest answer from Miss Ca. She gave an honest answer and he did not like it. If she had lied in front of all the people who were watching Miss USA, that would show you that she just wanted the crown and did not care about the truth. Some times the truth hurts, but you must say it. Mr. Hilton did not receive the answer he wanted. He wanted her to say that it was o.k. to be gay. It's not according the bible. Mr. Hilton should have appreciated an honest answer, even if it is not the one he wanted to hear. He must understand that all people are not for gay relationships. He must understand that people do have freedom of speach. He should have never asked the question, if he did not want to hear answer that he could accept. He should have been more cautious with his question, instead of saying Miss CA should have been cautious with her answer. I love the fact that she answered the questions with the may she did, she showed that she was honest and truthful in what she believed. The world sadly lacks very basic qualities such as this. If the TRUTH HURTS, MR. HILTON, THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT ASK QUESTIONS, WHERE EVERYONE DOES NOT BELIEVE THE SAME THING YOU DO. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING EVERYONE BELIEVES THAT IT IS O.K. TO BE GAY. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN BELIEFS AND BY INSULTING MISS CA. AND CRITICIZING HER YOU WILL NOT CHANGE THAT.

Considering that Donald Trumps judgement and decisions lately have seem rather skewed (i.e. Joan Rivers being crowned Celebrity Apprentice) I would say that yes, he will let her keep her crown. Let's not forget he also has a soft spot for beautiful blondes. If she breached her contract, however, I do not believe he should allow her to continue her reign. I do not think that when a business partner breaches a contract with Donald Trump he lets them get away with it. so why should he treat her with kid gloves. This would be sending a wrong message that people who lie and neglect their commitments are rewarded. I am starting to lose whatever little amount of respect I had for Donald Trump.Let's hope he thinks with his big brain and not his little brain this time.

The Donald will not fire Miss CA.. He should fire that prejudiced judge for asking Miss Prejean such a contraversial question in the first place. And it was a trick question at that! The term "gay marriage" is an oxi-moron. Like Jumbo – Shrimp and Military – Intellgence. The moral, historical and Funk & Wagonal's Dictionary definition of marriage is the union between a man and a woman. So gays need to find another word- yep its all about the verbage, folks- yes, FIND another word to describe their union between two of a kind. And our legislators need to equate THAT word the gays choose... to MARRIAGE in all things legal and communal. Carrie should remain in her role as Miss CA.. I'm sure she'll do us Californians proud.

um, last time i checked, the 1st amendment IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH, ALONG WITH FREEDOM OF THE PRESS. I commend carrie for actually standing up for what she believes in. Who cares that she may have upset some gay people. They should know that a girl with christian up bringings IS going to answer truthfully when you ask her a question, no matter what its about. ATLEAST she didn't lie, and then win a crown representing somethng that requires belief in something that she doesn't believe in! like they say "its better to be hated for who you are, then loved for who you are not" Who cares if carrie may have to give up her crown, she did something that requires alot of confidence and GUTS, she did something that no other girl would EVER do, that is the biggest reward of all. she has earned the respect of more people than she knows. but i don't think its fair that she did all of that work to prepare for her pageant, and then her success is going to be taken away from her. THAT IS THE ONLY UNFAIR PART ABOUT IT. i thought america was the land of the free.. well if that REALLY is true, CARRIE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY WHAT SHE WANTS! A MISS USA CROWN DOESNT REPRESENT WHO YOU ARE. she is a very smart and beautiful girl, and if she can't be seen as WHAT SHE IS, THEN SHES BETTER OFF WITHOUT THE CROWN.
