Countdown for Kiefer?

The clock may be ticking down on Kiefer Sutherland’s time as a free man.  The actor has been charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly head-butting a man in New York City early Tuesday morning.

No, Sutherland wasn’t acting out a scene as 24’s Jack Bauer when he got into the alleged altercation with fashion designer Jack McCollough at a New York City nightclub.  Instead, cops described the scene in a statement as "Male white 42, speaking to female white when a male white 30 walked in between them to get to the bar. There was a verbal altercation and the suspect head butted the victim, causing injuries to the victim's nose”.

And how is this for a Hollywood twist? The female involved in the altercation, according to multiple media reports is Brooke Shields!

You might remember that Sutherland is still on probation from a 2007 DUI conviction which lead to a 48 day jail sentence in Los Angeles.  Authorities there are looking into whether this could be considered a parole violation- if so, Jack Bauer may be spending his summer break in jail.

For all of the latest breaking developments in this story, including video of Sutherland arriving at the police station in New York be sure to tune in to Showbiz Tonight at 11p eastern and pacific!

Oh good god, what horrible, judgemental and nasty people some of you are. I'm guessing none of you were there. Why don't you do like you are suppose to and wait for law enforcement to get the answers rather than jumping to conclusions and calling people names.

Everyone here is being completely dramatic. So he headbutted someone and got into an altercation, it happens. No one was seriously injured, so who cares? Some people in this world need a good headbutt to be put back in their place. To say he needs anything more than a slap on the wrist is ridiculous, how did we evolve into a race of pansy's?

He is a really nice guy. He is known to fight his friends so this doesnt surprise me. But when he fights his friends its all in good fun. This guy had to of done something wrong but he wouldnt of hesitated to deliver that headbutt. Oh well keep up the headbuttin!

There is two sides to every argument–so I'm not going to judge Jack–er, Keifer until I know what his side is. I would be interested in hearing what Brooke Shields has to say though.

Keifer Sutherland is a pathetic, drunken looser. He needs to go to jail where he'll have plenty of time to 'head-butt'.

I agree with Adam. No one really knows exactly what happened. That guy could have been a total jerk to Brooke, and maybe he really did deserve a shot to the face.

His dad was always so low key on screen, it's hard to imagine what he has to be angry about? Well paying job, being famous or cool hollywood lineage? I like his show & and as a 80's child loved Lost Boys and Flatliners ... maybe's he's just a mean drunk? K get on the wagon.

What a jerk Kiefer is! When will he ever grow up. When he is 60?

SAD! I cannot understand how people who have everything cannot control themselves. Mr. Sutherland's role in 24 is one of the most intense and totally captivating on TV & I am addicted to it, but that is acting & it cannot be carried over into real life.

it seems he was standing up helping someone? but that doesn't mean its okay what he did. 24 is an AMAZING show, hopefully it will still continue!!!!

Keifer's acting and his drinking are compartmentalised in different parts of his life. Jack and drunk Keif are different identities, and you can be certain that he isn't proud of what the latter has done recently. I'm not saying give him an out for this, but remember all of you are people with your very own issues to deal with. I am a dedicated salesman for a local builder, but that has nothing to do with the version of me that exists in my nightlife.

Be wary of your mirror before you judge, people.

Where did THAT information come from?

Ah, America. If you don't like the facts, just make up new ones to fit your prejudices.

I saw Keifer Sutherland on set when he was in his first movie role years ago here in Canada and I was always struck by the fact that he never had a smile for us kids. That was striking because, as a new actor, you'd think that he'd at least fake one for the fans.

So with this glowing recommendation for character in my memory, it is not surprising that he'd do something like this. At the same time, where in this story is the statement from all parties? Perhaps, it is as some have stated, merely a response to rudeness that escalated.

However, it seems that he needs to have someone give him some tools to deal with situations like this, or learn to develop a more effective set of sarcasm and wit.

Or is this a product of someone already having issues with alcohol? Belligerent drinker often goes hand-in-hand with those who are idiot enough to drink and drive.

Fine him, force him to attend some effective counselling, and move on. His friends should consider buying him coffee wherever he goes.

LOL!!! Isn't this the most hilarious thing you ever heard?? But this is why I hate Hollywood, he ain't gonna do time, everybody there gets a damn free pass...and wasn't he convicted of a DUI but only stayed in jail for like 40 days or something like that?? I swear, California is a waste of time for law, they are a freaking joke...I will show em more love and respect if they show some integrity but they never do, and they wonder why I bash em...

I love 24 and Keifer but really....headbutting a gay designer? please, he either needs to get his drinking and anger under control or stay away from people.....hate to see him go down this road

I don't know people. It sounds like he was working on Brooke and someone interefered.

Let's be honest, they all act like little snotty kids. People are startving, losing there home, dying everywhere and they cannot handle a little problem.

How about the fool that walked between them? Granted the headbutting was uncalled for...but, how about a little manners. Obviously, Mr. Broken Nose never learned them.

Next time, a simple "excuse me" will be considered.

keifer is catching some bad publicity by this but i think he was just standing up for her and her enormous eyebrows... and "this kind of behavior needs to be addressed by the court..."? are you kidding me? who are you? do you work for a different network? are you trying to delay 24- day 8? i've always said actors only play roles they would be themselves... jack bauer would've stuck up for brooke sheilds too...

This kind of behavior has to be addressed by the court. He needs to be fined heavily in addition to jail time. I think most people are sick of this kind of senseless violence. There's no excuse.

I'm sure Keifer just had a momentary relapse from his days in CTU...which would completely justify him head butting someone-just a mis-understanding-Jack is THE MAN!

He really has anger issues. To have what he has and to act like that is just wrong. Acting like a brat is not cool. He and Sean Penn act like brat brothers.
