April 29, 2009 Top 5: For once I agree with Simon, sortaPosted: 09:08 PM ET
Simon thinks this is a wide open competition and I have to say I think he's right. I disagree that everyone sounded great last night. The gang sings "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "I've Got Rhythm" and Matt sounds in much better form than he did last night. The group performance is not as annoying to me tonight as it usually is, but there's a bit of a disconnect in seeing them perform classic songs in modern dress. And is Adam wearing a brooch? ** SPOILER ALERT: Wednesday night’s blog will eventually reveal the contestant leaving the show. Do not visit the final entry of the blog if you do not want to know the results. ** As we get closer to crowning the next "American Idol," it gets way more difficult for me to imagine who is going home. The show just started and I can feel the excitement in the audience air through the television. The spin camera made me dizzy and all the dramatic lighting made me almost think they were about to beam Ryan up, but it's all good. Here we go! Representatives of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick released this statement to Showbiz Tonight; "Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed." Filed under: Sarah Jessica Parker Surprise elimination on 'Dancing'Posted: 10:27 AM ET
“Dancing with the Stars” co-host Tom Bergeron predicted fans could see the most shocking elimination of this season - and he was right. ![]() After “Bachelor” alumna Melissa Rycroft skipped Monday’s competition due to a rib injury and rodeo star Ty Murray received some mixed comments from the judges, it seemed one of them would be booted from the competition last night. But Murray was proclaimed safe early during the results show, prompting tense moments for the rest of the celebrity dancers and their professional partners. The last two couples standing were a tearful Rycroft and her partner Tony Dovolani, and country singer Chuck Wicks and his partner Julianne Hough. And surprise, it was Wicks who won’t be returning to the competition! Wicks and Hough, who are a real-life couple, have been getting great comments from the judges lately, but apparently "Dancing" fans felt otherwise. Meanwhile, Rycroft said she hopes treatment will keep her going in the competition despite her injury and added that it broke her heart to miss Monday’s show. Do you think the right couple went home? What a show, eh? Surprise mentor, great songs and some real standout performances. As we get closer and closer, it gets harder and harder to predict who will be in the bottom - although I have at least one candidate in mind. Drama! ![]() Adam on the lit up stairs, back-lit in a white suit. Darn right it's a new day! Whew, chile! His "Feeling Good" made me think he was about to start roaring like a lion! He held that one note like he had sucked all of the oxygen out of the auditorium. Kudos to whoever threw the red light on him. His little half smile was menacing and if I was the other contestants I'd be watching my back! I LOVE that Kara called him a little sleazy and why am I not at all shocked that Paula compared him to Michael Phelps? It was such a Paula thing to say! Can Adam Lambert be stopped? Gokey and Jamie may be destined for a little bromance. ![]() Why does the mentor have to get all up in your face to get you to sing better? Jamie really did him some good. "Come Rain or Come Shine" might have been the best Danny Gokey performance for me to date. He didn't just sing - he SANG. His voice just seems suited to the classics and he had this look in his eye like "Adam Lambert, I am coming for you!" Kara is right that he had swagger. He was fired up and it was hot!!!! Matt studied jazz in college, but did it pay off? ![]() I freaked out a little bit when Jamie told Matt to change the key of "My Funny Valentine." After all, why mess with a classic? The song started off rough, real rough, and was it just me or did he sound like he was completely off key? He sounded so good in rehearsal, but his performance was less than stellar. Everyone but Randy seemed to really like it. Simon even said he was brilliant and I am completely stunned. Did it perhaps sound different, and better, in the studio than it did on air? The little rocker chick is now 17 and she's got a lot of talent in that tiny teenage body. ![]() Her "Someone to Watch Over Me" was much more subdued than I thought it would be. That song is very nuanced and she sang it well. She looks adorable and I think she took Jamie Foxx's advice to heart to really personalize the song. I'm a little tired of the constant "she's just not likable" drum that Simon seems to be beating. So she's not super outgoing, but that doesn't mean she's boring. She's the last female left and I think she is showing the men that she is in it to win it. Filed under: Simon Cowell |
