Top 5: Strut your stuff, Natalie Cole

Posted: 09:31 PM ET

Natalie Cole has had some health challenges lately and I guess that's why she looks so thin.

Her voice is also not very robust as she sings her new single "Something's Got To Give." It just seemed a little off. And I love her lots.

Maybe it's the gold dress she is wearing, but I immediately started hearing the "Solid Gold" theme in my head. Didn't she host that show for a minute back in the day?

Best wishes to you Ms. Cole. It may not have been your best tonight, but you are a class act!

Marilyn McCoo did Solid Gold, didn't she?

Robin   April 29th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

She needs a kidney transplant badly. Bravo for her for still getting out there!

wh wha what??   April 29th, 2009 9:37 pm ET

The poor woman has been through alot with her kidney problems.

host solid gold? If that was an attempt at humor...please stop

Annette   April 29th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

Wasn't it Marilyn McCoo who did Solid Gold?

Florida Dude   April 29th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

It was Mailyn McCoo. That comment istantly takes your opinions down 4 or 5 notches

Amazing

Natali Cole; what a disappointment.

Wouldn't make the idol cut. Have no idea what Foxx is doing–it is not singing.

God bless Natalie and she is such a trooper!!! We love you girl and you are up against a lot right now. Natalie remains one of the best entertainers of all time!!

KGo   April 30th, 2009 4:14 am ET

It was Dionne Warwick who was the host of Solid Gold.

She deserves so much credit for still being out there. My mom died from kidney disease and it can be horrible. God bless her and may her kidney and healing come through soon. She's always been such a class act and it great to know that she's also a trooper.

Liss   April 30th, 2009 8:50 am ET

Natalie Cole did a great job tonight despite being sick, she lost some weight but her voice is still great. I hope she gets a kidney transplant very soon....best wishes Natalie!

Natalie is a CLASS ACT – BEAUTIFUL – SWEET – JUST PLAIN CLASSY!

Farrell   April 30th, 2009 10:07 am ET

I love Natalie Cole but I'm a little unclear on exactly what her illness is; first she reported to the media she has Hepitatis C which ususally results in liver failure, she said nothing about her kidneys but did explain the Hepitatis C was from drug use and now she says she needs a kidney.

Florida Dude   April 30th, 2009 11:21 am ET

KGo...Dionne AND Marilyn both did the show. I think both did 2 stints on the show as well.

TIGANA   April 30th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Farrell what is your point.Google Wikipedia and research Hepatitis C and its assaciotion with the kidney. You love her but your ignorance is a give away.Just know that hep B, and C do results in Renal failure requiring dialysis and eventual transplant. just to give you an idea.

Scoot   April 30th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

The drugs they gave her to treat the Hep. ruined her kidneys.

I couldn't help but notice that Natalie was a bit off key a couple of times - but she looks good, and she has a remarkable voice. She has had her share of problems over the years - I hope it all works out for her.

LISA   April 30th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

I admire her strength, though she's going through a difficult time in her life, she is pressing on, with elegance & grace. She's in this race for her health to win it, and she will. You Go Girl !!!!!

Lorraine   April 30th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Beautiful woman and voice. But what is up with that awful gold dress. It looked like a home economics class project.

Joan Dietrich   April 30th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Adam and Danny are clearly head and shoulders above the other three finalists in all categories....vocals, artistry, performance and pure talent. If IDOL is truly about finding the BEST, the winner must be Adam or Danny. Between those two ADAM is undeniably the superior in all categories.

Elizabeth Lodge   April 30th, 2009 8:02 pm ET

Yeah on that gold dress! Made at home on a Singer sewing machine... from a Butterick pattern found in an old steamer trunk in the attic. That was one crazy performance... such a sympathy gig. Get me out of here

I saw Natalie Cole in concert last May and although she seemed
a little tired, her voice was PERFECT. She was great.
I think her illness may have taken a toll on her energy and voice
in the past year, but if she were in concert tomorrow, I'd be first
in line for tickets. The big band genre is where she belongs.
Her latest CD Still Unforgettable, is really, really good.
