Top 7 Part Two: Not so bad

All in all, disco night didn't suck as much as I envisioned.

Two people sealed their fate tonight and at this point, I have my duo picked out.

Who do you think danced their last dance tonight?

Don't forget to join us Wednesday night for the results show to see who will be heading home.

Top 7 Part Two: Anoop Desai closes it out

I think I've seen that Pepto-Bismol colored sweater Noop Dogg was wearing on someone else this season.

Anoop Desai

Anoop went with Donna Summer's "Dim All The Lights," so I guess he must be shopping in the woman's department, too?

It didn't exactly end the show on a super note, especially not his last one, which was sooooooooo off. He really tried to stay in his lane with the smooth balladeer schtick but I would almost bet money that Noop Dogg will be back in the bottom three - again.

Top 7 Part Two: Matt Giraud tries to stay alive

I was waiting for some Bee Gees.

Matt Giraud

Honestly, can it be disco night without one of their tunes? I'm kind of shocked that Matt went up-tempo with "Staying Alive," but I am not surprised that the JT hat is back.

Matt had some fun and so did I. Was it the earth-shattering performance that made me say, "Wow I am so glad the judges saved him last week?"

Not at all, but it didn't make me think that he should go home any more than Lil should. At least he sang on key.

Top 7 Part Two: Adam Lambert can do no wrong

Adam is back to the "clean-cut sans guyliner" look and I dig it.

Adam Lambert

His version of "If I Can't Have You" was, dare I say it, sweet.

The word "brilliant" is thrown around and for the first time Paula says something that I agree with in that she predicted he will be in the finals.

I am really, really enjoying watching Adam these days. I don't always love what he does to a song but that fact that dude is a star cannot be denied.

Simon gets a "Booooooo" for saying he thought Adam was going to sing Donna Summer. Do not underestimate the Lamb!!!

Top 7 Part Two: Allison Iraheta is 'Hot Stuff'

What is up with baby girl's choice of these overtly sexual songs?

Allison Iraheta

Watching Allison do her thing with Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" had a bit of the ick factor for me. I do love her voice, but I didn't love this performance.

She's only 16 years old and yet she clearly has the seasoning of an old pro when it comes to singing. Let's just hope the little rocker chick doesn't do that one on the Nickelodeon Awards next year.

Top 7 Part Two: Danny Gokey jams some of the elements

Most singers know that you just so do not mess with an Earth Wind & Fire song.

Danny Gokey

For that reason, I give Danny kudos for attempting "September." He brought some energy and he sang pretty well.

It's getting a little tiring watching the judges always, always giving him props no matter what he does. And Danny better watch out for Paula because I think she was getting her flirt on a little bit with him.

Overall, not a bad performance.

Top 7 Part Two: Kris Allen works it out!!!

Oh snap!!!!

Kris Allen

Kris was one that I really, really worried about and he completely blew me away with his version of Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money."

I absolutely NEVER would have imagined that it would have been that good. It was HOTNESS.

What in the world was Paula rambling about him "shopping in the woman's department?" I guess she was shooting for an analogy about his singing a song by a female artist but that was just silly.

Top 7 Part Two: Lil Rounds is 'Every Woman'

Wow, we just jumped right into it didn't we?

Lil Rounds

Lil sang Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" and from where I sat it was a whole hot mess. Flat in some places and just wrong in others.  Kara said it wasn't worth the wait and I have to agree.

What is Lil's issue? Why can't she pull it off? I was more entertained by Ryan asking her about her "inner goddess" than I was the song.

Simon thinks she is so out of here this week. Do you agree?

Top 7 Part Two: Starting it out

The show just started and the first lesson I have learned is not to ever again try to use my pup to demonstrate the dance known as “the robot.” He’s got sharp teeth, that one.

Ahhh, disco night. How I am both repelled and attracted by you.

On the one hand, I enjoy some of the songs (“Shame” by Evelyn “Champagne” King is my jam and I love the soundtrack to “Saturday Night Fever”) yet on the other there is a reason why the genre died and I, for one, do not mourn its demise.

Like with country night, the potential for disaster here is so acute that I am truly afraid for some of the “Idol” contestants. That’s the danger with some of these themes.

While we know that true talent should shine through, what does it really mean if you can’t sing a disco song well? The next “American Idol” no more has to worry about mastering disco than they do polka music.

Hmm, now there’s a theme the producers might want to consider next year.

More flames again in the intro, this time behind Ryan on stage. Is this some sort of subtle context that I am missing?

Ryan just said that Matt "lived to see another week." Well thank goodness for that.

Hold on tight, cause this is going to be something!
