Top 9: Well, that's doneThe show was only an hour and a half tonight, but I can't say I missed the extra half an hour. ![]() Tonight wasn't great for me. Perhaps it was the theme, which seemed so random and all over the place. Or maybe it was some of the performances, which seemed the same. Don't forget to join us Wednesday night for the results show to find out who gets eliminated. Keep sharing your comments here or head over to iReport to share your video reactions. Your comments might appear on CNN! –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Kris Allen ends it on a high noteI hope some of the other piano men were taking notes. ![]() Kris took to the keys with his rendition of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," and out of all of the songs tonight, his is the one that would have found a home on my iPod. He said he was attempting to have a moment, and he did it. Loved the voice and the entire performance. Kris has stepped up his game! –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Adam Lambert gets funkyThe pompadour is back! ![]() "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry? Really, Adam? Just when I was starting to heal from Adam's "Ring of Fire," he goes and weirds me out again. Paula compared him to Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler. Really, Paula? At this point, it doesn't really matter what I say because those who love Adam won't love him any less after tonight. I'll just say that he is certainly an acquired taste. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Lil Rounds surrendersLil looked so pretty tonight. ![]() But if you are going to sing a Celine Dion song, you have to really bring it. Lil chose Dion's "I Surrender," and she, too, was criticized for her song choice. Maybe I just expected too much from her and her big voice. I wanted her to have "a moment," and like last week, she didn't. Ryan went to one of her daughters in the audience and even the kid was at a loss for words. Very cute moment when her other daughter hugged Randy. So sweet. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Someone found Matt GiraudWeren't you secretly hoping Matt sang some Justin Timberlake? ![]() Maybe he should have because he went with "You Found Me" by The Fray, and the judges didn't dig it. Simon sounded like his dad when he told Matt "you can frown all you want" as he criticized him. Randy read my mind when he suggested that Matt should have gone with a JT song. Matt shocked us when he was in the bottom three last week, but might he be heading back there again? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Scott MacIntyre, just the way he isScott sings Billy Joel? Shocking!!!! ![]() Ryan kicked us off from the mosh pit and then took us to the piano where Scott sang Joel's "Just the Way You Are." I don't imagine he's too familiar with the lyrics because I think he may have missed a few words. I really wanted to enjoy it because it was Scott with a new haircut and unplugged. But it was still just Scott and his piano. It was cool, but I was kind of bored. The judges thought it was one of the best so far tonight. Your thoughts? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Allison Iraheta leaves us with No DoubtWhat is up with this show and big, audacious hair accessories? ![]() Allison had some God-awful thing in her hair tonight that reminded me of the monstrosity Carrie Underwood sported two weeks ago. She sang "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, and I was so distracted by her baby Cyndi Lauper outfit that I didn't really totally grasp the performance. Part of me thinks it was a little rough. I liked that she played the guitar a little bit, but it wasn't her strongest performance. She can sing, and I really wanted to see something other than her hair accessory shine. Am I wrong? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Danny Gokey is a little rascalNashville, were you listening? ![]() Danny Gokey was all over Rascal Flatts' "What Hurts the Most." That's the Danny we fell in love with during the auditions. All raspy-voiced emotion, wringing so much feeling out of every note without overdoing it. It was the right song, right time and right place. He needs to kiss whoever placed him in the line up after Megan. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Megan Joy turns the lights down lowMegan why?!?!? ![]() She chose the Bob Marley/Lauryn Hill version of "Turn Your Lights Down Low." I wanted to shut them completely off and hide under the covers. It was wrong on so many levels that I don't even have time here to list all of the issues. Simon said it was "indulgent," his word du jour when he hates it. Megan thinks the audience and her fans were "feeling it." I don't think so. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer Top 9: Anoop is 'Caught Up'Anoop as Usher? Hmmmm. ![]() There's just something about him singing about "his homeys" and how this girl has "got him twisted" that just didn't ring true. It reminded me of David Archuleta's version on Chris Brown's "With You" last season. I've got love for Noop Dogg, but he needs way more swagger training in order to pull off an Usher song and be an R & B artist as he says he wants to be. Good luck with that, Boo. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com writer |
