Many stars showed up for Barack Obama’s inauguration in D.C. this week. CNN caught up with President Obama’s close friend, Hill Harper from "CSI: NY," on his political involvement as an actor.
According to Harper, the best currency on the campaign trail wasn’t money. "Well, certainly being on a TV show like 'CSI: NY' where 15 million people watch the show every week is what I call a currency or platform from which to speak. It’s almost like a currency of celebrity,” said Harper.
Although he’s a best-selling author and holds two degrees from Harvard, Harper says most people listen to him because of his role as an actor. “[Being an actor] gives a platform to actually speak and talk about something … that’s part of the key. You convince them to know about the relationship and let them know how good he will be.”

Funny from our arts (acting, music etc..) we get windows into issues that are important in our world. During the Silent film era actors like Charlie Chaplin,Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford sold war bonds for the war effort of the first world war. This also happen with World War II with the Hollywood Canteen. These were noble moves that we all agree with. Hill Harper has written about issues that are important
and as a american citizen he has the right to speak out. He is right about the arts making a diffrence. The Miniseries "Roots" educated
all of us about slavery. and Holocaust (in the 70's on NBC) educated us about what happen to the Jews.
Agreed, I would rather 'actors" stick to reading their lines and not acting like they understand anything else, especially politics.
Nothing bothers me morew than actors acting like they know something about politic and trying to voice their opinions to the rest of us, most are drop outs with a pretty face, I say, shut up, read your lines and go home, actors suck in genral and are spoiled rotten, I could care less what they have to say
Just what we need. Another out of touch with reality actor trying to tell us who to vote for. Get a real job and then come back and talk to me.
