What to see, what to see ...

Posted: 01:01 PM ET

Three holiday movies I’m looking forward to:

- “Quantum of Solace.” The new James Bond film picks up - literally and figuratively - where “Casino Royale” left off. The new movie begins 20 minutes after “Royale’s” ending and continues in the tougher, less jokey vein exemplified by Daniel Craig’s Bond. I’d rank “Royale” third on my list of favorite Bond films, after “Goldfinger” and “From Russia With Love,” and with Marc Forster (“Monster’s Ball”) directing and a script again co-written by Paul Haggis, “Quantum” could be another outstanding entry in the Bond series. It opens November 14.

- “Frost/Nixon.” I admit it: I have an absurd fascination with the 37th president, perhaps the most Shakespearean character to hold America’s highest office. Peter Morgan’s play got terrific reviews when it ran in London and New York, and I’m curious to see how director Ron Howard opened it up - if at all - for the movies. Nixon is played by Frank Langella; David Frost, who conducted a famous series of interviews with Nixon in 1977, is played by Michael Sheen. The film opens December 5.

- “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Brad Pitt stars in the film version of an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story about a man who ages backwards. I’m not a huge fan of either Pitt or director David Fincher - the latter is undoubtedly talented and equally undoubtedly dark - but this looks like it could be a cut above the standard sentimental way Hollywood handles fabulist material. (And the special effects are supposed to terrific, which means they DON’T call attention to themselves.) It opens Christmas Day.

What are you looking forward to?

HELLO! Without a doubt it's Twilight. After all the hype from the books it will be great to see the characters come to life. Every housewife, teen, boys, girls, men, all of them will like this movie...if it translates well...which is another reason it's highly anticiapted. Robert Pattinson is a great new comer and Kristen Stewart is the perfect Bella. I can't wait!!! Romance, Suspence, Action, VAMPIRES!!! WOO HOO!!!

Winn Krawel   November 6th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

No movies. With Obama as president-elect I can't afford movies nor do I want to support leftist Hollywood.

Barry   November 6th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

Watchmen!

Heather   November 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

"Twilight" – I've read the Twilight series and am very eager to see how the movie turns out.

A Baker   November 6th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Twilight!

lee glover   November 6th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Twilight!!! I don't care if it is being marketed towards female teenagers, its a story about overcoming overwhelming barriers in the name of love – with a bunch of action thrown in and a quirky dirctor at the helm. Who wouldn't it appeal to???

Laurie Mann   November 6th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Well, The Road was supposed to be out this year, and that's what I was most looking forward to. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer.

The Reader sounds moderately interesting. Maybe Revolutionary Road, but the trailer made it look too much like soap opera. The Soloist looked interesting too, but that's also been pushed off until next year.

*sigh* maybe I'll just watch old DVDs this holiday season.

Roz   November 6th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Fanboys

After a harrowing two years of political strife and negative campaigning, I'm ready to laugh it up.

Adam   November 6th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

Twilight, which comes out November 21!

KarenB   November 6th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

Twilight

I read a book in the middle of the series, without knowing it
was a "series"...ordered the rest of the series including Twilight
,,,finally got hands on the first one....thought the whole thing would make an interesting movie....and found out they beat me to it! A movie is about to be "out".... its kind of geared toward teenagers/young folks, I'm 66 and "flexible" (followed Harry Potter, I can follow this one too!)

Kimberly R   November 6th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

While it has been pushed back, I am looking forward to the sixth installment of the Harry Potter films, "The Half Blood Prince". So many transistions take place in this book, it will be interesting to see how they translate to screen.

Steve the G   November 6th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

JCVD - the return of Jean-Claude Van Damme in this self-referential mockumentary is sure to restore the Muscles From Brussels back to form. In fact, I've already seen it (at the Toronto Film Fest) and can't wait to see it again. Yep, its that good. And believe it or not, JCVD can act! What next – Seagal in a Jane Austen adaptation?

Cody   November 6th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

"The Time Travelers WIfe"- Loved, loved, loved the book and can't wait to see it on the big screen. I know it won't be the same, but I have hope for a great chemistry with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. I'll be there will bells on. Can't wait!!

Edna Rodriguez   November 6th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Twilight!!! I am a 30 year-old obsessed with the books and am counting the days down till the movie comes out. Edward, here I come!

linda   November 6th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Twilight!!! Can't wait.

R   November 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Twilight. I love vampire movies.

Steven L.   November 6th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

FANBOYS! When it FINALLY comes out..... Ok, I know it's not coming out this Holiday Season...or even this year...but I still can't wait!

Doggie   November 6th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Watchmen and Transformers 2 !

Madwe Reddy   November 6th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

What about Australia! Its appears to be another huge epic love saga like the Cold mountain or The Atonement type. I am big fan of Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman is looking ravishing, hope it turns out well. We gotta wait&see!

B. Martin   November 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I am actually looking forward to the new Friday the 13th. I am a sucker for horror movies and when i saw the new teaser trailer of Jason Voorhies actually running towards his latest victims, i was hooked!

Mark   November 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

I am looking forward to the next Harry Potter movie.

John Smith   November 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

I'm looking forward to going to see Queen + Paul Rodgers concert film that is being shown nationwide tonight. It will be great to see them on the big screen!!

NIchole   November 6th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

TWILIGHT.
I am not sure if any other movies are coming out.
This is the only one I can even think of.

Claudia   November 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Oh, I'm sorry, i thought the only movie out this fall was...TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!

summer Mcmillan   November 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Harry Potter : ) and Twilight!!!!!

Robert   November 6th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Quantum of Solace is the only movie I'll see in the theaters this year, and quite likely for some time to come. Anything else I will get from Netflix. It's not like all that many of the movies they make these days are original, anyway.

Katie   November 6th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

I'm looking forward to The Reader and The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Meghan   November 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Twilight, without a doubt! I was skeptical at first, but the trailers have looked pretty good so far. November 21st can't come soon enough!

Xtina   November 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

1. TWILIGHT
2. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
3. REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA
4. MARLEY & ME
5. NOTHLING LIKE THE HOLIDAYS

Also, people need to suck it up and move forward already. This article is about movies, not the election.

riceandegg   November 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Hi Winn Krawel. You just got out of a nightmare movie about Bush's regime. Don't be scared because it's over! You will enjoy a lot of movies for months to come. Your gay friend in San Francisco.

Cindy   November 6th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Twilight, cannot wait. only 15 more days. :)

Bryan H   November 6th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Where The Wild Things Are and The Road.

ZC   November 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

I agree. The trailer for Watchmen looks like the director is going to do great things with a brilliant book. Other than that, the only movie I really look forward to seeing is Happy Go Lucky, which is already out. I'd watch a documentary about dust mites if it was made by Mike Leigh.

Mike Hogan   November 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Valkyrie – As a student of history and especially World War II, I've run into several Germans who were not sadistic monsters. Very few of them however had the commitment and dedication to actually do something about Nazi attrocities. Claus Von Stauffenberg was one who did. I'm a little concerned since this movie has been "coming out" for almost a year, I'm hoping the makers haven't messed up the story.

Kendra   November 6th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Without a doubt Twilight! Cannot wait!

Pam   November 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Marley and Me...Loved the book. Made me laugh and cry outloud....

John Santry   November 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

I am really looking forward to " The Hobbit". I know it's a few years away that doesn't I still can't wait.

Wendy   November 6th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Twilight...can't wait! Nov. 21st

Jon-Michael   November 6th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Both Daniel Craig flicks – Quantum of Solace and Defiance as well as The Curios Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt(the other prize-winning play turned film opening this fall), Baz Lurhman's epic Austraila and of course Frank Miller's adaptation of the classic comic book The Spirit.

Sarah   November 6th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Watchmen, definitely. My husband is a huge fan of the comic, and I was hooked from the second the trailer started. I've since read the comic and am on my way to becoming as obsessed as he is. If they pull it off right, it will be very cool.

KE   November 6th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

HP: The Half-Blood Prince was supposed to come out the day after my birthday. I was really excited about that. Now I'll have to wait until the summer

johnniebgoode   November 6th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

win krawel...wah wah wah wah cry baby

steve   November 6th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

The remake of the 1950's classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still.

M. Broncucia   November 6th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Quantum, Frost and Button. Top pics as well as Doubt
Can we leave politcs out of this fun survey, Krawel ? Bruce Willis, John Voit and other rightys work there too.

Bill T. Jiote   November 6th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Great little international gem of a film from China – "Yag-nam". I think the director was the same guy who did the opening ceremony for the Olympics.

Lisa   November 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Twilight, Twilight, Twilight! After that, Marley & Me!

Joe Hwang   November 6th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Watchmen! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.....

Lennie   November 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Terminator Salvation!
Christian Bale is excellent playing the roll as Batman. I can't wait to see him playing the legendary John Connor. I just hope the movie is directed as well as he is an actor.

Renee   November 6th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I was looking forward to the new Harry Potter ... but oh well ... i must only anticipate Twilight this year.

marie   November 6th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

TWILIGHT!!

RobK   November 6th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

To win krawel – Thanks! I hate sitting next to right wing haters at the movies, or anywhere else for that matter. Please, do stay home and spare us your pathetic, self-serving, intolerant crap.

MEB   November 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

I see lot's of votes for WATCHMEN (opens March 2009) – which I think does qualify as a holiday Movie (St Patrick's Day?!). But seriously, I think The Wrestler will live up to the hype and buzz it has gained from Mickey Rourke's performance.

Pagoda top   November 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Public Enemies – Johnny Depp as Dillinger directed by Michael Mann!!!!!!!

Mutter   November 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

I am looking forward to seeing Angles and Demons. Tom Hanks reprises his roll from the Da Vinci Code.

Jessica   November 6th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

I'm looking forward to the new harry potter :)

Stephanie   November 6th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Without a doubt it's Twilight!

Betsey   November 6th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Definately Twilight! I just read the series and I enjoyed it very much. After that I look forward to the new Harry Potter movie.

Jessica   November 6th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Australia without a doubt. I cannot wait to see this movie from Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge was my favorite of all time. He is brilliant.

Kelley   November 6th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Revolutionary Road, Seven pounds and Australia all look very interesting.

DJ DNA   November 6th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

I'd have to say that i am anxious to see The Spirit. Frank Miller is an extremely gifted artist and author so undoubtibly (sp) it will be enjoyable to watch.

And really? Obama getting elected is going to influence people from going out and having a good time? That is truly said and quite pathetic. Winn you need to get on with your life

Traci   November 6th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

The final installments in the Harry Potter series... intriguing.

Bret   November 6th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

If they did "Watchmen" right, and it looks like they might have, it will be brilliant. Biggest March opener of all time. Based on the greatest graphic novel ever written.

John   November 6th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

The Lovely Bones. Only movie worth waiting for. I wasn't a fan of the Lord of the Ring movies, but those who read the book say Peter Jackson kicked butt, so, since I love the book The Lovely Bones, this should be awesome. Can't wait!

J Webb   November 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

"Watchmen!" An alternate 1985, Nixon is still president, super heroes are outlawed, and we are at the brink of nuclear war with Russia.

Amee Webb   November 6th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Absolutely Twilight! I've read 3 of the books and am finishing the 4th. Its been a long time since I've been that excited for a movie to come out! I hope its as good as the book!

Darrell   November 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Defiance, I predict this movie to win Best Picture Oscar.

robert J. Wilson   November 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?

James Dent   November 6th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Watchmen!!!

Alan   November 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Anything that "Winn Krawel" was going to see – with them staying at home in their poor house, means more room in the theater... oh and Star Trek.

ameena02   November 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

TWILIGHT!

Mike   November 6th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

right now i can't wait to see zach and miri, but long term i'm pumped for iron man 2, captain america, thor, and the avengers

Leslie D.   November 6th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Quantum of Solace
Twlight
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Watchmen
The Spirit

Paul   November 6th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

I completely agree with looking forward to Benjamin Button, although I find Pitt and Fincher to be major draws to the film. Even more so with Cate Blanchett. Since The Road was pushed back, I am also really looking forward to Quantum of Solace for it's action packed mayhem and The Wrestler for Aranofsky's next awesome hit. Slumdog Millionaire as well for Danny Boyle, who rarely disappoints. I hope Mickey Rourke's career gets the jump start it desperately needs.

Shandra   November 6th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

Twilight! Can't wait!

Heatherly   November 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

I have been addicted to Baz Luhrmann ever since the line, 'You're a gutless wonder!' was yelled in the charming 'Strictly Ballroom,' so I can tell you that 'Australia' is on the top of my list. Gus Van Sant's 'Milk' is also up there, considering Sean Penn's performance looks beyond amazing.

jonathan   November 6th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Fanboys! The funniest movie that has been pushed back for like 2 and a half years now. Seth Rogen is in it and it should be hilarious.

lette   November 6th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

The Soloist – directed by Joe Wright (amazing director), starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx. Can't wait especially since it was pushed back to March 09.

Heather   November 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

TWILIGHT!!!! I am in my early 30's and I can't wait to see it.

Troy   November 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Watchmen and Quantum of Solace and maybe Transporter 3 & Fanboys. That'll have to hold me over until Jackman's Wolverine solo movie and Shazam/Captain Marvel flick releases into the theatres.

Katherine K.   November 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

1. Madagascar 2 opening this friday!
2. Bolt opens Novemeber 21
3. Marley and Me Opens in Dec.
This year is a good movie year for me!

Celeste Dillon Gordon   November 6th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

I thought Quantum of Solace would satisfy my action picture – Daniel Craig craving; however, I just finished the Twilight series and cannot believe I am crushing on an actor my daughter's age! (How did I miss this series?) I'm tellin' ya, the novels were so amazing and so well-written and I am hooked. So for two Fridays in a row, I will be one happy 47 year old woman! I heart Edward.

Anne   November 6th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

I'm curious about the remake of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' which I think comes out about mid-December. It will have to be very special to hold up to the original. Not sure about Keanu Reeves playing the spaceman, tho!

Konaguy   November 6th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

:::::...I guess it's way to early to begin anticipating "The Hobbit"..:::::

Johnda183   November 6th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

Revolutionary Road with DiCaprio and Winslet and directed by Sam Mendes looks promising. Milk, with the often compelling Sean Penn, could be a winner too.

Erica   November 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

I have to agree with most of these people!
I've read the Twilight series before they decided to make a movie out of it!
I'm really excited!!!

Benst   November 6th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

I am not looking forward to any specific movie, but, instead to the Crossgates mall IMAX movie theater in Albany, NY scheduled to open at the end of November 2008. The Capital District will finally get an IMAX theater, instead of movie-goers having to drive hundreds of miles to the nearest city that has one.
Thank goodness for the movie critics at Rottentomatoes.com and Metacritic.com. Thanks to them, I almost never see a bad film anymore.

Richard   November 6th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Watchmen.

Tiffany   November 6th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Bolt!!

It looks so cute!

Jackrabbit   November 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Outlander. Vikings versus Aliens... what's not to like?

CitizenJoe   November 6th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

I am looking forward to The Reader. I think it is going to be nominated for best picture and looks like it has an amazing cast and story to go with it.

Gin   November 6th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Twilight! Most defentaly! i have read the whole series, and i am hooked! i cant wait to see how well the movie does. I hope that they will make the rest of the books into movies as well

Erica   November 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

TWILIGHT ALL THE WAY!!

Vicky Horvath   November 6th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Can't wait to see TWILIGHT!!!!! I loved the books!!!

The love story is fantastic and each book left you wanting to know more about these amazing characters. I love the new spin on the vampire stereotype!

I can't wait to see the vampires on the big screen and the special effects!!!! From the previews the actors look like excellent choices! Just how I imagined them! Can't wait!!!!

Remember Real Vampires Sparkle!

Todd   November 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Winn Krawel**
What does OBAMA president-elect have to do with what movie you want to see?? go cry somewhere else.
.Back to topic...Watchmen!!

prs   November 6th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Oh Winn Krawel, get over yourself. The reps had 8 years and totally screwed everything up. You're angry because you and a few others wanted more of the same?

Just like the republicans said 4 years ago...if you don't like it, you can leave! OR, you can choose to get behind Obama and hope for the best. Many of us who didn't vote for Bush 8 years ago did just that, but unfortunately, he still failed all of us...yes, including you.

If Obama doesn't do well in his first term then put up a good candidate, but if all the reps got is Palin for '12...well, it's going to be a long 8 years (or longer) for you who can't get over it.

Also, I'm looking forward to "Special" with Michael Rapaport. That's my contribution to keep "leftist Hollywood" going.

cheryl buchanan   November 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

I'm looking forward to Marley and Me. My college daughter and I are reading it right now, and the casting seems just right. I know Hollywood has probably changed the story, but hopefully not too much.

Pawel   November 6th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Somehow CNN seems to have overlooked "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Looks spectacular, and features a strong cast, Reeves, Clease, Hamm, Connelly, Bates.

Melissa   November 6th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Edward and Bella, is there anything else? TWILIGHT!!!

Michael Hawkins   November 6th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Not necessarily in this order, but these are what I want to see the most:
1. Slumdog Millionaire
2. Synechdoche New York
3. Revolutionary Road
4. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
5. The Spirit
6. Let the Right One In
7. Milk
8. Ponyo on the Cliff
9. Valkyrie
10. Gran Torino
11. JCVD
12. Patti Smith: Dream of Life

And that's it!

KEVIN   November 6th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Isn't there a Land of the Lost movie in the works? That is one I really want to see. I have thought for years it would be a great movie with modern FX.

kt   November 6th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

The Road – Viggo Mortensen

Debbie   November 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Renee~I too was looking forward to Harry Potter in Nov. oh well, can't wait!!

CitizenUSA   November 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Harry Potter-Escape from Puberty

Jon McDonald   November 6th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Can't wait for the Hobbit.

John from Northern California   November 6th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Marley & Me....

Kris   November 6th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

I gotta say it's Twilight. I loved the books and I'm really looking forward to it. I have fully embraced the idea that the movie can not be exactly like the book, so I'm excited to see what Hardwicke will do with it.

Also, I want to see Doubt. I'm a big Philip Seymour Hoffman fan. Plus can you really go wrong with Meryl Streep? Nah... I didn't think so.

Steven Gaynor   November 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Watchmen – Star Trek #11 – Harry Potter #6 – Angels & Demons

E   November 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

The Wrestler!

Mike   November 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

I am looking forward to Valkyrie and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Mike   November 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

How old are you Todd?? 59 or something? The word from the UK that the new Bond movie is a boring mess of a movie so I've already crossed it off my list. Transporter 3 looks to be way more exciting!

JT   November 6th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Bond. James Bond.

Also Winn Krawel, better turn off your TV wouldn't want leftist hollywood to infiltrate your living room. I hope your not serious when you say that, but somehow, I'm sure you are.

Jim   November 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Without a doubt, I'm looking forward to DOUBT.

Darrell Russ   November 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Earlier in the year there was talk about a Donna Summer biopic film to star Tasha Smith as Summer. However, they cannot make it without Donna Summer's musical permission. Smith said she would do the same as Angela Basset did as Tina Turner...lip synch. Smith said Summer's life story is truly extraodanary and that she would be a challenging woman to portray. I forgot who was to direct, but he is big. If not Smith, I would choose Vivica A. Fox as she is beautiful, has poise and is a talented actress as well as Smith. Having met Donna Summer, I can assure you you she is beaufiul as well. What a lady...what a legend!!!!!

Richard   November 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

I have heard great things about the Wrestler with Mickey Rourke.

Brea   November 6th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Twilight!!!! I can't wait!!

Linda   November 6th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Dear Vampire movie lovers,
Make sure you also see: LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. If you're really into vampire tales with the constant thirst of something creepy and new, give this one a try. I'm sure you wont regret it. You're welcome :)

molly   November 6th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

heya!!!!!! i cant wait till twilight comes out. iv read all the books and everythin. its an amazing serise and i love it. i think vampires are comen back and i cant wait!!!!!
^_^

D Fletcher   November 6th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Gran Torino – What could be more enjoyable and satisfying than Directed by – and Starring – Clint Eastwood.

alekshy   November 6th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Twilight is going to be a HUGE disappointment. With the exception of its soundtrack, it's going to have a big opening weekend and an even bigger fall the second weekend. Judging by the trailers, this one definitely stinks of overhyped bologna.
.
On that note! Quantum and Benjamin are on my list as well. Slumdog Millionaire, Bolt!, Australia, Che, The Wrestler, Yes Man (I want Jim Carrey to do more drama), The Spirit, Revolutionary Road, Valkyrie, Defiance.
.
There are just WAY TOO MANY movies coming out this holiday. I wish Watchmen was coming out this holiday, but we've got to wait!

JessicaP   November 6th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

I think the new Disney movie Bolt looks very cute, and I'm excited they are releasing it in 3D as well!

snowbelle   November 6th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

repo the genetic opera, it is the movie of my generation and everyone should go see it,

Karen H.   November 6th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Valkyrie, although I'm not the biggest Tom Cruise fan. Awhile back, I lived in the German home town of the main character, and the people there are extremely pround of him. It was a tradition for their mayor to take the widow out to lunch annually, and she just died a couple of years ago. I hope the film does the story justice.

Samantha   November 6th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Twilight.
I have been obsessed with this book series since the beginning. It is an amazing story filled with romance, action, suspence, and comedy. It is an astounding story line. Add in a hot cast, astonishing direction, and marvelous author, and we are going to have one remarkable movie. I cannot wait. I will be at the midnight showing, along with every showing after that all day long. I have continued to get my friends to read the book, and they all hate me for it because they all become just as obsessed as I am. This movie is going to be spectacular, and I cannot wait. I am definitely beyond excited.

Danielle   November 6th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

TWILIGHT!?!?!?!?! Thank you Harry Potter for putting off till January so we all can see the greatest characters come to life. :)

Jared   November 6th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Watchmen. Frost/Nixon.

AJ   November 6th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Winn Krawel... If you can't afford to go to the movies, you should be Obama was elected because I will help you free up some of your income since you obviously don't make 250k+... I'm excited for Quantum of Solace.

Hayward   November 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Anything with Sam Rockwell in it!!

Tara L.   November 6th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Seriously- Twilight. I can't get enough of the promos or the books. I am even going to the midnight showing because I am so excited about this movie.

Lookin foward to the completion of Beverly Hills Cop IV.

Sandy   November 6th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Without a doubt it's Twilight. I've loved the novels since forever now, and it's finally on the big screen with two incredible leads (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart), that premiere weekend is going to be insane!

Daisy Peterson   November 6th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Well, since no Alan Rickman fix in Half Blood Prince, I'll have to go with Nobel Son. Even if a movie ain't great, Rickman makes it worth watching!

Richard   November 6th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Geeze, Winn Krawel. The economy is as bad as it has been since the last time a Republican president caused this bad a recession (Reagan in 1983 was the last time this many folks were out of work, also inflicted with enormous federal deficits, and isn't it funny that it's always Republican presidents who start recessions?), Obama hasn't even had a chance to do anything to make it better or worse, and you're whining about it's his fault you're broke? Unless you worked for John McCain, you're either wrong, whining, or just plain lying.

I look forward to Quantum of Solace. But the movies I'm really anticipating are not coming out this year: Harry Potter 6 and Iron Man 2.

Doug   November 6th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

"The Soloist"

Jess   November 6th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

I am so very ready for the next Harry Potter. I can not believe they pushed the release date back.

Mike   November 6th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

I keep hearing that Chasing 3000 is supposed to come out. It is about 2 brothers travelling across the country to see Roberto Clemente get his 3000th hit. Does anyone know if this movie is ever going to come out?

Mells   November 6th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I'm a 32 year old married woman who can't wait for the next 15 days to fly by for my Edward/Bella fix!

Sugiebear   November 6th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

"Marley and Me" because I love labs and it looks like a funny movie

Winn Krawel   November 6th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Ok, i'm an idiot... I do support Hollywood. There are about a dozen things i want to see. The one about the couple making a Porno is top on my list.

I'm glad that Obama was elected and cant wait to see the wonderful changes he will bring about.

I can't say there's any movie I was looking forward. I don't wish
to support hollywood either. I don't think the issue of Obama not
producing a birth certificate is going to go away. It may just be heating
up. Anyway with money tight these days hollywood has to make
movies worth seeing!

Bethany   November 6th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Twilight! I already have tickets. I'm also looking forward to Marley and Me, Lovely Bones and the next Harry Potter.

Bubba   November 6th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

The last movie I saw was 'Iron Man.' Before that the last one was "KingKong," and between the audience noise and filth and the high prices I'm not in a hurry to go back. I haven't rented a DVD in a year, according to the coupons the store keeps sending me. Too many movies are boring shootemups or uninteresting for other reasons, and I'd just as soon read a book.
Movie industry, fear my power!

Sean Penn's Milk

Heidi   November 6th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

TWILIGHT- 'nuff said.

Mozart-NY   November 6th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

People, all of us should be gasping for AVATAR by James Cameron. That will be the next mega Blockbuster. Mark my words.

Others need mentioning like
"Australia"
"Valkyrie,"
"Twilight"
"Gran Torino"
"JCVD"

Mr. Ecks   November 6th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

I don't understand how Winn Krawel can't afford to go to movies because Barack Obama is president elect. The pathetic state of our economy is because of the Republican administration currently in office. Obama hasn't taken office yet so there's nothing that he can be held accountable for. It's quite comforting to know that ignorant idiots like Winn Krawel are always so easy to identify.

Oh yeah – I'm looking forward to seeing "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

I'm looking foward to the remakes, sorry adaptations that Hollywood is making these days. I just saw a trailer last night for a remake of Beethoven. Come on, is writing a movie that hard?

Kevin   November 6th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Any article that has "I am not a huge fan of David Fincher" loses instant credibility if you ask me. Although that list is the same as mine.

Twilight should be the top of everyone's list

Erik Wargo   November 6th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Watchmen. All I care about is seeing a faithful film adaptation on a giant silver screen. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll catch a couple of heads explode during the 3rd act.

April   November 6th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

No question Twilight-a group of 10 of us are going from my work to the Friday showing at lunch. Bought tickets 2 days ago. Have read the books 3 times since September and reading again now. Have been getting as much hype as possible and watching the trailer daily. It looks amazing. It is not just for teen girls-the oldest in our group going is 67 and I am 43. In fact, we don't have anyone under the age of 30 joining us-even have a guy tagging along since he was the one who started our infection-our Carlisle so to speak.

Kim   November 6th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

~Twilight~
Love the books and hoping the movie can hold true!

Cajun Jew   November 6th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

The three you listed are the same three that I do have my eye on. Otherwise, I am not terribly excited about this holiday movie lineup. Maybe Synechdoche New York because I am such a fan of Charlie Kaufman but I am hearing mixed things about it. All of Kaufman's other films have had nothing but great buzz surrounding them. We'll see. After The Dark Knight, I just do not see anything impressing me this year (DVD release date Dec 9th!!!).

Heather   November 6th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Twilight Twilight Twilight! I am a 33 year old mother of 5, and I am absolutely insane about this book series. I can't wait to see the movie!

Alicia   November 6th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

That would be "Doubt" starring the fabulous Meryl Streep! I smell Oscar!! Of course, it's Meryl so why wouldn't you smell Oscar with any film she is in!! My warm up movie while I am waiting for "Doubt" to be released is "Australia"...that looks pretty good too!

Hank Marsh   November 6th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Madagascar and Volt with my daughter. Bond is the only must see for me. But some smaller films will surely be recommended to me. Valkyrie looks cool, but I'll wait for the reviews. Frost/Nixon maybe. The DVR and big screen at home has changed what I'll actually go out for. If I'm lucky, there will be a good date flick I can see....

I'm really excited for Disney's "Bolt" because the hamster is just too dang funny and Tom Cruise in "Valkerie" looks extremely interesting.

Yo Winn Krawel...

A simple question was asked about movies, If you don't have an answer then don't post. Poor baby, now you're going to have to deal with 8 years of compassion and understanding. I'm sorry you hypocrite Chrisitians don't practice what you preach. God doesn't appreciate your ignorance and hatred.

Oh yeah, bite me,

I'm looking forward to "My Name is Bruce".

I would like to see Milk. I think Sean Penn is a great and dedicated actor and puts alot of time and effort into each role he does. The story of Harvey Milk is so sad but an important moment in history. I think the movie is coming out at an important time in our country especially after what just happened in California. Plus James Franco is in the movie and I think he is amazing.

Chris Dawson   November 6th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

STAR TREK!!!!!!!

sophy   November 6th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

The only people looking forward to Twilight are pre-teens and creepy middle aged women. I've read all the books and they are mediocre. I can't believe I wasted my time on those books. These people are deluded in believing that the Twilight series are as great as they say. They must not read or own many books.

But I'm looking forward to watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The storyline seems intriguing so I'll be seeing it with my friends and family this Christmas holiday.

AND TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Becky S   November 6th, 2008 4:13 pm ET

winn krawel, I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!! I personally look at each and every movie that comes out, look to see if Susan Sarandon, George Clooney, Whoopsie Goldberg, etc., etc., etc., is starring in them. And guess what - most movies have the left wing groupies in them. So, I no longer go to the movies. But I don't miss them. I find that Discovery Channel, A&E, books and being with my family is so much more rewarding than lining the pockets of the actors who use my money to get on their soapboxes and use their "star" status to sway voters. I no longer watch any of the "name brand" channels, namely, CBS, NBC, ABC, nor CNN, (omg, never watched the laughable MSNBC), etc. As I said, there are more enjoyable channels where you don't have to wince because of the language and having immoral actions jammed down your throat if you want to see a program. Long live "Dr. G", "The First 48 Hours", "Jon and Kate Plus 8".

Think about it America!!!!!!!!!!! You don't have to support what you don't agree with.

Steven   November 6th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Star Trek 11 – The previews are killing me! I can't wait!!!!!!! Why did they push the release date to next year?!?!

TWILIGHT! I'm a 36 year old working mother of three young children. I am seriously addicted to Twilight and cannot wait for the movie to come out! One of my favorite novels of all time!

Michael in Canada   November 6th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

For all you Twilight freaks do yourself a favor – go see
"Let the right one in". If Twilight is as good, then and only then, should it be looked forward to.
After that there is the gorefest called "Splinter" followed by Fincher and Boyle's before year end.
Remember.....LET THE RIGHT ONE IN!!

p.s. -congratulations America on being so OBAMISTIC about your future

MDB   November 6th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

I know I don't plan on seeing Twilight. I mean good lord is that the most anticipated film this year, it looks pretty bad.

Anyway, here are the films that I am dying to see:
2008
Let the Right One In
Special
Fear(s) of the Dark
Synecdoche, New York
JCVD
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Slumdog Millionaire
Quantum of Solace
Timecrimes
Gran Torino
The Wrestler
The Brothers Bloom
Defiance
Australia

2009
The Unborn
Friday the 13th
Watchmen
The Wolfman
Star Trek
Drag Me To Hell
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Where the Wild Things Are
2081

and this is the short list.

Jamie   November 6th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I haven't seen any mention of Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie. I believe that one is directed by Clint Eastwood. Now, I'm not the biggest Angelina Jolie fan, but from the trailers I've seen she appears to have done a phenomenal acting job. It's already been released, and I've got plans to go see it this weekend. Being released on Halloween counts as a Holiday movie, right?

Rose   November 6th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Twilight? Guys, seriously? You're killing me here.

Personally I can't wait for Revolutionary Road–I love the book, and Kate & Leo together is a magical thing. Kate NEEDS to win her Oscar this year. It is wildly overdue. Of course, Doubt will also be amazing, and Meryl is going to be super-kickass in it. If she steals said Oscar I will totally cry, because she's already got two and it's time to let the divine Miss W get hers.

Dan   November 6th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

SHAZAM the movie, still a ways off, but wanted to see it made since I was a kid.

Tim   November 6th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

I would just like a movie with a complete story that is semi-intelligent. It seems right now that all the comedies don't have a developed plot line and just make crude jokes designed to appeal to 13-year olds.

jenny   November 6th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

STAR TREK!!!
also Friday the 13th, The Day the earth Stood Still, and the Hellraiser remake! yay!

–Dorian Gray

Clint Eastwood's new flick:

The new Harry Potter, of course. Another vampire flick called "Let the Right One In". I'm sure I could think of more...

As far as movies coming up in the next month, the only one I'm looking forward to and planning to go see is Quantum of Solace. I WOULD have included the new Harry Potter and the Star Trek film on this list had they not been moved to next summer.

Jason Briggs   November 6th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Who has time for movies? Go out and GET A LIFE!

What's with all this Twilight crap? It seems just like another trendy novel that's going to be turned into a stomach churning mistake of a movie.

Not only is Baz Luhrmann an amazing director, but he has a great cast that he knows how to pull amazing performances out of. The film looks like it'll be a true epic and one to be remembered.

What the heck is Twilight, and why is it all women that wanna see it. I wanna see Bond in action, how come the Brits got it a full two weeks before the US that stinks?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Twilight is coming out soon . . .

I'll watch Bond on the big screen any day.

Valkyrie, without a doubt. It's one of the greatest stories of WWII, and yet so few people know about it. I don't like Tom Cruise, but he's a great actor. It should be great and I can't wait.

Actually, Twilight.

Think about it:
Movies are usually the opposite of the book they're based off of, right?

Twilight (Book) was terrible.
So the movie should be great!

Karen in Ohio   November 7th, 2008 12:21 am ET

TWILIGHT – I have it on my calendar – can't wait for Nov. 21st to see it! Yeah baby!

"HELLO! Without a doubt it’s Twilight. After all the hype from the books it will be great to see the characters come to life."
-Mandy

Hello, you are an idiot. Books almost never translate to movies well. Not to mention, that they deaden some parts of your imagination and kill your interpretation of the book.

Tandile   November 7th, 2008 8:30 am ET

As I am a South African living in South Africa I feel so jealous because I am not able to comment about these movies the way you guys do but as a Tom Cruise fan I am looking forward to Valkyrie as well as the curious case of Benjamin Botton.

Michael Ferris   November 7th, 2008 1:21 pm ET

"The Brothers Bloom" with Adrien Brody and Mak Ruffalo looks like it could be a clever movie.

Konaguy   November 7th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

While I'm looking forward to seeing "The Day the Earth Stood Still", I'm hoping the film doesn't go the way of "War of the Worlds" where the story line was co-opted and reduced to a vehicle for special effects. The delicious tension in the original film with Patricia Neal and Michael Rennie made it a classic!

TWILIGHT!

Especially due to INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC(GEORGE LUCAS) special effect team making the upcoming Meadow Scene ** Wonderful**.

It will be worth the seeing that part of the movie - and the beautiful Pacific NorthWest. Mr. Pattinson is also yummy.

I have to go along with all the others! Twilight!!! My friends and I are all in our twenties, college students, moms & wives and we already have our tickets! We have all read the saga numerous times and are totally addicted! Thank You Stephenie Meyer! Only 9 More Days!!!

Dear god, if I here one more person gush about 'Twilight', I'm going to swallow my own tongue from a massive brain embolism. 'Twilight' is the Gap for Kids version of Anne Rice's 'Interview with the Vampire', which, by the way, wasn't very good either.

This ooey-gooey, romantic view of vampires has got to stop. Also, the self insertion character, Bella, who everybody loves and is just about perfect, except for her adorable case of awkwardness, LAME. Seriously.

My list: Milk, Frost/Nixon, The Baader Meinhof Complex (if it comes to the States, that is), and because I am fan of REAL romance movies, Slumdog Millionaire.
