World's 'greatest' record collection can (still) be yours

Apparently, Paul Mawhinney's 3 million-strong record collection - which includes valuable recordings by Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and many others - is still for sale.

He values it at $50 million, but was selling it on eBay for much less. Still, a winning bid of $3,002,150 turned out to be false, so there's still time if you have some extra cash. Check that couch for loose change.

(I wonder what Elton John, who sold off some of his own fabled record collection several years ago, thinks of this.)

Great collection. Museum should have it, and everybody should have access to this historial artifacts.

i have been saving money off and for many years to buy such a collection just like this...all i need is 2,999,888$
Do you think he'd let me make payments? With the price of gas and other commodities going up during this Non-Recession, i might be able to pay about 20$ a week...

I know his records are worth more than $1.00 each. Thye should be in a museum, or available for all to listen to through a "free" non downloadable web format. Perhaps Warren Buffet can buy them all and then donate to the museum of choice. My 500 78's could go the same way. WAY TO GO VINYL

Even this crazy collection guy realizes that hi-res digital downloads are the future, why can't all these people going, "vinyl rules?"

If each record album is 1/8 of an inch thick, then by my math
(3m x .125 /12 /1509), the stack of record albums is 20 miles high laying flat.

I would love to buy these albums but my one bedroom apartment
would get a little cramped. He should have been buying gold all of this time. Good Luck.

Hmmm...

One mile = 63,360 inches

Multiply that by 8 to get the number of 1/8 inches per mile

That's 506,880

If 506,880 stacks up to one mile, then 3,000,000 is 6 miles.
